I'm on vacation and staying with my wife and kids in Park Slope. After an exhausting day traipsing around Manhattan, we stumbled upon this little gem of a place. Frankly, I do not understand the negative reviews above. The food was very good; the service excellent; and the ambience delightful. We were sufficiently impressed that we returned the following evening. The second night proved that Sotto Voce is consistently of high standard.

Maybe people in Park Slope just don't know real italian food, or even what good food tastes like. They won't find good italian food here, that's for sure.

I have no idea how this place can stay open for business. I went for lunch with my wife and son and had the misfortune to order fettuccine Bolognese which came after more than half an hour wait, it was smothered in sauce, actually there was more sauce than fettuccine which was over cooked. In the sauce I found a bay leaf and pieces of stems of what supposed were herbs used to prepare the sauce…I hope!!! I will never go back to this place.

SOOOO DISGUSTO. Stay away from this place, everything taste gross. I went here for brunch and got FOOD POISONING. It is disgusto. I'm nauseous just thinking about how horrible my experience was. Plus the service was awful.

I can not say enough good things about this restaurant. Food is excellent and if what you want is not on the menu do not hesitate to ask your waiter. They could not be more pleasant or accomodating. Atmosphere is bright and airy with not overpowering jazz playing in the background. My favorite in Park Slope. Don't miss this one!

I recently visited this restaurant on a date with my wife. At 8PM on a Sunday night it was full. As is the case with many New York restaurants the tables are fairly close together and the space is "intimate." Ironically, the term "Sotto Voce" in Italian means soft voice but the ambience is anything but soft. We could barely understand our waiter because of the background noise. The situation improved as the night wore on and people left but if I was trying to get to know someone this is probably not a place I would go. There are plenty of viable vegetarian options on the menu. The rigatoni with eggplant and mozzarella cheese was satisfying for me. My wife had a seafood special involving Tuna, shrimp and mussels and was very happy. The Australian Merlot we ordered went well with our meal and we finished with Tiramisu and cappucino (both quite good). I was disappointed that they were out of Peroni (the only Italian beer on the menu). That struck me as odd. Overall, given the right cirumstances, a good place to dine with friends or a date you already know well (or who speaks really loudly).

We went for a late weekend brunch and I was hugely disappointed after reading the above NY mag review. The food was ordinary and plain, the bread was tasteless, and the mimosas were weak, watery concoctions served over ice (no need to serve either champagne or orange juice over ice, except to save a buck). Food, service, decor, price, pretty much everything about this place was not bad but not impressive -- just boring and bland.
