Tasty Food - Awful Management

Arrived at 10pm, no reservations on a Sat night - so we were told it was a 2 hr wait. I had to wait for friends to arrive so we stuck it out. we were seated at midnight - at the WORST table in the joint - in the middle of the room on the lower level, no backs to the stools. It was a bar table! A table exactly like the one I sat at waiting for 2 hrs for dinner. We asked to be moved and eventually were - after the hostess was incredulous that we actually waited 2 hours for the table. Ordered the tasting menu - but 10 min later the mgr told us that the "pace of the food would be faster than normal because it was so late and the kitchen was closing." Why the hell did you take our name and seat us then?? The servers were nice, we told our waitress about the frustrating experience, so the mgr came back with some schmoozy schpiel about free drinks - totally insulting. Food was tasty, but we were treated like sh*t. Based on that, I could not go back. And I work in the industry.

After 5 times at Spice Market, I refuse to ever give it another chance. If going for drinks or apps. then Spice Market is quick, hip, trendy--- epitome of the Meatpacking crowd. If you are going for dinner...you may not even be sat. I have been turned away several times when 2/3 of the place was empty. The last time I went the hostess forgot to grab me at the bar and inform me my table was ready 30 minutes after my reservation. My waitress was great but my halibut tasted like it was rolled around in a salt mine, and my boyfriend and I experienced some serious after effects the next day.

Good Appetizers & Rude Hostesses

I have been several times. I love the look of the place, but it is very dark, hard to read the menu in some spots. Service is sporadic; some nights they are attentive and others, less than. The Hostess is always filled with Faux NY attitude. Very annoying. Ok now for the food: in general the entrees are fair to midline. But the appetizers and side dishes are mostly amazing. The Peekytoe crab dumplings, Salmon Tartar( has an underlying effervescence that is so different and yummy!) , and the mussels are my favorites. Their ginger rice will improve any entrée; even one of their own. Overall, it’s New York there are better restaurants. But that Salmon Tartar,....

Soulless Theme Restaurant

Sorry, this restaurant does not belong on the culinary map in New York. Just had lunch here and it struck me as fitting comfortably in the second tier of Las Vegas eateries, suitable for spendy tourists and conference attendees. The food is sporadically tasty, but they get the details wrong and the staff has attitude they in no way earn. Spice market is the undead remnant of the last restaurant boom; if you are looking for someplace with a soul, keep looking.

We ordered the Spice Market tasting menu...as we had on our visit a year ago. Unlike our last foray, it was simply disappointing, at a tab of $48 per person (ex-drinks, tax, service). *Starters: The lobster in the summer roll wasn't very fresh. The shaved tuna was tasteless, although in a nice broth redolent of coconut, chilli oil, and lemon grass. The samosas, of densely minced meat in paper-thin filo pastry were very good. The beef rolls were fine...little to recommend them. *Main courses: The ginger fried rice was excellent. The cod was good, with the malay-style sauce really bringing it together. The chicken (breast) was overcooked and dry, although my companions liked the kumquat-based sauce. *Dessert: The choc fudge with banana and popcorn was delicious; the thai style fruit dessert was authentic if not, as usual, to our taste - one might have expected a more interesting take on it. * The service was unimpressive. No mistakes, but nothing special about it. Each course was brought by a separate server, without apparent oversight by our waiter. Our waiter did come around three times (after the initial order) to check drinks, but only asked about the food once - right after the first two appetizers. *Drinks (not, of course, in the menu price): at least one of the cocktails ordered - the cucumber martini - was watered down. * All in all: unimpressive food for the price and unimpressive service. Still like the decor - but that won't be enough to draw us back ever again.

The atmosphere is pretty frenetic, but underneath it all they have some solid snacks downstairs in the lounge. Have not had a full meal there yet, however, bar scene is nice, so is the decor. Trendy Wendy crowd

I know it's one of the hottest restaurants but in all honesty I could've done without. Better for groups then for dates atleast then you wouldn't notice the long wait for the food- but then again the portions are so small that you better be ready to spend lots of money to feed your party! Service/Food: STINKS! We had to call our arrogant, unhelpful waiter to the table so many times! The food delivery is on a "when its ready its ready" format. So basically we waited almost 2 hours for our pork vinderloo, I really think the waiter forgot and didn't realize until we asked for it; by the time we got it we weren't hungry anymore. Atmosphere:beautiful decor Crowd:well Usher was sitting at the table next to us yet so was a group of self absorbed rich teens who were so loud and obnoxious the waiter had to tell them to lower their voices. THEY even started singing Usher songs when they noticed it was him. The crowd is overly pretentious and desperately in need to be cool- same goes for the staff. I know you're gonna go anyway so atleast be prepared to be dissappointed.

Decor is amazing, and impressed my date from the moment we walked in. However, the food was...another story. Appetizers were less than average, as the Shaved Tuna wasn't that great, nor was the chicken satay or Lobster roll. The Lobster entree was very bland, and that says a lot for a restaurant that really piles on the hot stuff. The Striped Bass was by far the best, but very, very spicy. Overall, the experience wasn't a bad one, but no beautiful people thats for sure, and wasn't that impressed overall.

Initially when I stepped into this restaurant with my parents, I was quite taken back with the clothing of the waiters. Why do the female waitresses have to be wearing shirts open in the back? It was quite distracting (not in a good way) to see women parading around in that type of clothing. I think that initial shock sort of threw me off and it resulted in an unsatisfactory experience. The food was good but the waitress was extremely unfriendly when we said that we didn't want an entree even though we ordered a lot of noodles and appetizers. I definitely don't see myself going back there again....

I get it, it is called Spice Market, but to me there was just too much spice and flavor in each dish I ordered. The food was almost too full of it, very heavy flavors, and they did not mix well with each other, and even side dishes like veggies were almost as flavorful as the main course. After finishing my meal I felt very heavy almost uncomfortable. The decor is charming though and the service is good.
