I haven't had Thai food this good since I went to Thailand. I had heard so many good things about this place when I moved a couple of blocks away and want to hit myself for taking almost a full year to visit. The service wasn't that fast but they were swamped the night I went so it's totally understandable. They were all very friendly.
Want to experience heaven? Order the green curry with duck. Absolute bliss!

Eat there at least once a month and the food is excellent. I have not found a better value in New York. The service is extremely quick, but do not expect to hang out for hours on end, for it is an extremely high volume restaurant. The decor is extremely simple, so do not go there expecting white linen. The bottom line is it is if you want a quick lunch/dinner, exceptional Thai food, at an extremely cheap price, this is your place.
Suggestions: Order family style; my favorite dishes include roasted duck salad, fried soft shell crab with shredded mango, curried pork with string beans, soy noodles, drunken noodles, and sauteed fish with garlic and lime.
As a heads up, they are closed on Wednesdays.

Food was decent (I've had better in Manhattan -- not really worth the trip to Queens), but the service was horrible. Appetizers went ok. Then when it was time for entrees, out of a party of three, 2 of us got our entrees and our third friend had to ask twice for hers. By the time she got her entree, we had almost finished eating... and waitstaff was completely unapologetic about the error. Within five minutes of finishing our entrees, we were asked to pay and then told we needed to leave our table (on the back patio) because another table was waiting. I understand asking a table to leave after they've been sitting for an hour+, but we had just finished eating! To make matters worse, we walked through the restaurant to leave and it was 70% empty -- but rather than tell another group they needed to sit inside, we were kicked out of our table after we had given a generous tip. The manager was unapologetic. It is not worth my money to eat run-of-the-mill Thai food and be treated so rudely.

...I don't feel like repeating myself, so you can read my blog post:

Suffice to say, I'll be sticking with Pam Real Thai in Manhattan.

Best Thai I've had in NYC!

I've been on a very serious hunt for good Thai food in NYC, and have been shocked by the dearth of it. This is easily the best I've found so far. The crispy watercress salad my date and I had for appetizer was a bit dry, but I suspect this was because we got seated after the restaurant was technically supposed to close. (We showed up at 8:30 PM on a Saturday night, and had to wait more than an hour on line. You're really trying your luck if you get there after 8 PM.) I really enjoyed my drunken noodles and the massaman curry, and the lychee ice cream was a nice way to finish. Another big plus: a bottle of wine (though nothing a sommelier would enthusiastically recommend) can be had for $20-25. Both rieslings on offer were $20. The place was packed, so I didn't judge the hostess too harshly for marching us to our seats and dropping the menus on the table without any eye contact or a word of greeting. I would be interested to see what happens on a slower night though. Will definitely return!

Best Thai Food in New York

So when I moved to NYC I went to a a thai place on the upper west side. The guy noticed that we knew about thai food and that my girlfriend was thai. He came back to us and asked if we wanted to know where the best thai food was and of course we said yes. It was very odd that he would tell us of another place but we said ok. We have been there 10+ times and we love it every time we go. Every dish we have tried we love. For those who say the place has horrible service I have no idea what you are talking about. We love the service, they always fill up our water and bring us our food on time. Love this place!!!

I was never a big fan of Thai cuisine until I ate at Sri Pra Phai. Many Thai restaurants in NYC are either fusion based or traditional Chinese-American dishes drowned in coconut milk. However, Sri Pra Phai stands out for its authenticity through the freshness of the ingredients (especially the chicken soup, salads and fish entrees). The pad thai is good, but this dish can be skipped, without sacrificing a great Thai cuisine experience. Since being introduced to Sri Pra Phai, I have tried other Thai
restaurants that are "comparable" to SPP, but they lack the consistency in terms of quality.

I am surprised to see the negative reviews here, but let's just say that it is likely that it is more probable to spend energy posting if you had a bad experience than if your experience is good.
I've gone to SriPraPhai Thai over the years since they were much tinier, in fact more than half the space they are now.
I do miss the old, smaller, less-famous version, but am happy to see their success.
They are for sure authentic, from the Thai people who are regulars down to the refrigerator which offers all kinds of exotic deserts. The one that sticks in my mind is a pumpkin custard.
The only not-so-great dish I've ever had there was a soft-shell crab appetizer. The whole fried fish are amazing, especially with chilli sauce, the papaya salad with friend catfish marvelous, and love the crispy pork. Very delicious! I haven't tried the Pad Thai because, well, heh, Pad Thai these days sort of akin to sweet and sour in Chinese cuisine, isn't it?

I live right around the corner from this place, and eat here a lot. It rocks! I can't believe it has gotten mixed reviews from a bunch of manhattanite philistines. OK, if your idea of Thai food is choosing between the green curry and the jungle curry and you don't like it spicy, then you will probably hate this place. It is also true that the service when they are busy is pretty perfunctory. But the food here actually resembles the food they serve in Thailand. The papaya and green mango salad are wonderful, there is also an unlikely sounding sausage salad that is really good. The stir friend eggplant dishes, the beef and chile, the soft shelled crab---yum! They do use fish sauce in most everything (a couple of people on this said the food tasted rancid--do they mean it tasted like fish sauce???) and if you want mild food you should make that very, very clear, but otherwise, come early, come often, just don't come on Wednesday.

I cannot believe that I was conned into leaving the Island

Everyone, from New York Magazine to my best friend in the City, has been raving about Sripraphai. And, on my day off, feeling adventurous and craving Thai food, I went. Let me just say that I am happy that I did not con anyone else into going with me--what a waste. The food was, to quote NYM, poor. Plain poor. The papaya salad tasted slightly rancid; the chicken/chili/basil dish was oily (and the the chicken seemed of questionable authenticity); and the pad thai--the pad thai was the biggest shame. Tasteless at first, with a strange, almost bitter, aftertaste. In addition, the food was not even particularly cheap: the same items at Chai at 55th and 8th would have cost the same amount, give or take 50 cents. The next time that I schlep somewhere off the Island for Thai food, it will be to go to Thailand.
