Brunch: Great food, bad service

Five friends and I went to brunch and we all loved the food but found the service surprisingly bad. The woman who took our name and seated us was fine, but from there it was downhill. The waiter spilled water and ice on the setting and then didn't come back until we waved him down. After that he was overly friendly but inconsistent. We sat with empty plates until we asked to have them removed. The barmaid wore a dirty t-shirt. No one was polite or made an effort. The food is great but they really need to get the service up to a more professional level. And I rarely am picky about service.

I started going to Stone Park over a year ago and have been about ten times since then. I actually have to force my self to branch out and try other places. The menu is creative but doesn't try too hard, and execution is consistently excellent. The wine list is not extensive, but is well-chosen. This is by far my favorite restaurant in Park Slope and I highly recommend it.

And they even botched our reservation...

I don't know why this place is so well loved. I went for the prix-fixe, but was so impressed with the choices on the menu that I went all out. What a mistake. Why bother putting shrimp in the polenta when the ham overpowers the entire dish? Why even order the sea scallops when a fist of spicy sausage makes the scallops disappear on your palate? By the time I got to the lime mousse I knew not to even eat the hard chocolate crisp or blueberry compote, if I did I would never have tasted the lime. The "accents" on every dish I tasted here (I went with a group of 4) completely drowned out the actual item ordered. I walked away completely disappointed. Message to the chef--Let the soloist sing! Don't drown her!
