After a cold and windy day spent wandering around the sites of New York City we decided to dine in 'Hells Kitchen'. We came across Taboon and after walking we accomadated at the bar. The staff were extermely helpful and professional and that was seen in the food we were served which was extremely well presented and tasted sublime. Although the prices were slightly high it was not too high for the quality of food that was on offer. A delight to eat at and I highly recommend this to anyone visiting New York.

I am no stranger to Taboon. I have been going since they opened a few years ago. I always had great service and good food. That being said, I will never set foot in there again. I brought a friend whom had never been few nights ago and right off the bat the hostess was very rude. We didn't have a reservation and she was pressuring us to be finished and out the door in less than an hour and a half. It took forever to get our food and the waitress never thought to apologize or let us know why it was taking so long. When it finally came, it was so salty I didnÂ’t even want to finish it. For the amount of money you spend for a meal there, it is not worth your time and energy. This is the first time IÂ’ve ever thought to post a review. I wanted to warn people before they waste their hard earned cash. This place is on a serious decline.

I've been here with friends on multiple occasions and love the creative but solid menu as well as a fairly subdued atmosphere. All the red meat and fish dishes I've had are spot on, and breads/dips are not to be missed at the outset. Service tends to be attentive and knowledgeable -- made some good wine recommendations from a list that was not at all intuitive to me. Occasionally loud but seems to retain an intimate feel at the smaller tables where I've been seated. Definitely great for a date or fun night with a hungry group though quality doesn't come cheaply even in Hell's Kitchen.

Very delicate flavors, exceptional attention to detail. I strongly recommend all mezes you can eat, since there are very few averagely-prepared items(cigars, for instance). Pleasant atmosphere, friendly wait staff, reasonable wine menu and really exceptional desserts. No turkish coffee, though. You will have to subsist on a well made(not burnt) double espresso.

I have been a huge fan of Taboon. I loved the casual, sophisticated atmosphere. And the food (especially the apps) is outstanding. However, the last two trips show a decline. A few weeks ago, I took 5 out-of-town friends. The waitress and numerous "whatever" mistakes made the night a good-food-BUT experience. More recently, I went with two local friends. The live music grew so loud that we had to shout. Then a woman in a birthday group got up, grabbed a mic, and started singing with the band. Two other women then stood and started dancing badly, and louder music followed. Not only was one of the owners present, but sitting down with the group. We complained and were offered 10% off a $200 bill (before tip). A miserable night could have been avoided with a WARNING at the time of reservation that Mondays are sort of an owners night where anything goes. Or they could have realized that the permissive private party vibe did more than $20 damage. In the future, I may check the vibe and have an app at the bar. But no more reservations and no more expectations.

found this resturant by accident by parking in front of it while going to Victor's. took two other couples with us totally cold. what a great meal. the complimentary bread was almost succulent (better like garlic). we tried five appetizers, falafel, shrimp kadaif, married sardines, foi gras and oxtail. married sardines was too fishy, all others were terrific. between the six of us we had four main dishes - i had a duck confit special and though it looked different from any duck i've ever eaten, it tasted as good as, and much better than, most i've ever had elswhere. my wife had the braised short ribs and we traded and enjoyed both equally. one friend had the hanger steak and raved about it and another had tuna special and said it was sublime. the drinks (mine apple martini) were well made, choice of vodkas, not too expensive. atmosphere warm and friendly, service top notch. the best part, portions were just the right amount, you were satiated, not stuffed. tried two deserts, fondont and silan, both wonderfully decadent. prices were not outrageous, we were never rushed by the staff who were friendly and helpful.

There is room for improvment at Taboon. Food is very good, but somehow frugal.-I ask for the fish of the day, although good, the portion was tiny, too tiny for a $27 tag, when just a few fingerling potatoes to complement it could have made a big difference to the stomach and the eye as well . I ask for an espresso, it was 1/2 of a sip size and for $3 come on! where is the common sense? Walter C NYC

Taboon is undoubtedly this year's best surprise and one of the better and most interesting restaurants I know in New York. The food is fenominal and a three course dinner with wine will not tear a hole in your pocket. The fresh oven-baked bread is to die for and the mezze's variety is great (each little dish is a work of art). But mostly, I come for the super fresh fish. My favorite is the oven-grilled whole branzino with rosemary butter, which is so simple and just perfect. The desserts are also irresistible (Try the Silan!). We went back several times, on romantic dinners and with friends. It was consistently superb! Sadly, brunch at Taboon is disappointing.

The clean and open decor, super fresh fish, wine selection, and mix of flavors blew my mind and not my wallet. It is not only a great place for a date, but the comfort of the bread, service, and dishes makes this place a great find. Taboon is setting very high standards in the neighborhood.
