I just revisited this restaurant with my Turkish husband this weekend and thought I'd let everyone know how much better the food is. It recently changed owners and they brought in a great Turkish chef. Definitely a must if you love Turkish food!

Run by a young and friendly Turkish group that prepares fresh and delicious food - tender lamb, outstanding stuffed vine leaves, and a good range of appetizers and Turikish wine in a cheerful casual environment. Granted the hummus is not as good as it was under the name Efendi, but the change to cheer from the war zone Orhan created in the kitchen is worth the tradeoff. In a neighborhood that has relatively fewer cuisine choices at modest prices than much of Manhattan, it is a treasured neighborhood joint.

I was hungry and had some time to kill so I stopped in to this little turkish place.. I tried the humas It seemed very dry..like it was sitting out for a while... the chicken was my main course and a similar result.. dry on the inside almost over cooked... anyway.. no atmosphere and very plain....

after my boyfriend and I walked back from rock center we stopped at this place tried some of the doner and bean dishes.. not a great idea... felt it was very dry salty .. the bean had no real taste...

The food here is phenomenal. If you are familiar Greek food you will be very familiar with this cuisine. I haven't eaten anything I didn't like at Taksim. The appetizers are superb; try the elephant beans, the zucchini and eggplant salad, the cheese burek or the artichokes. You can't go wrong with anything you order. On the main courses, the lamb dishes are wonderful as is the doner and the grilled fish is fantastic. Try the turkish Efes beer. And, you must finish with a Turkish coffee or tea and the splendid baklava or rice pudding. It's a small, noisy place, but the service is friendly and the food is beyond belief good. Yummy. I keep going back here.

my husband and I were on our way back from a movie and went in to this restaurant for a bite to eat. I tried the beans and they realy were'nt very good and a small portion.. the doner was very dry and the service i felt was a little slow concidering the were 3 tables occupied.. so like i said really nothing to write home about

I dropped by the old efendi tried out the "same" menu.. seems the words are the same ,, THE FOOD "NOT" EVEN CLOSE.....

My girlfriend and I were looking for a cozy place to eat on the eastside (50's) and rememmered Efendi was there. so we went by .. Noticed the name change and went in anyway... I ordered the moussaka, and my girlfriend the Doner.. it was NOT the same food. just average at best,....ORHAN WHERE ARE YOU.???????

This restaurant is terrific. It is inexpensive, yet the food is great. Because I am in the neighborhood, I have eaten there several times and always try different dishes. I have not been disappointed. The service is wonderful as well. The staff is Turkish and could not be more friendly. The reviewer who claims that a waiter yelled at him must have really done something to provoke the situation...
