Rude & rushed service
By ARAO on 6/28/2004
We went for an anniversary dinner, expecting a wonderful time having read the reviews. However, our waiter did not tell us what the specials were, did not bother to ask if things were to our liking during the meal, and brought us our bill while we were in the middle of eating our dessert-- not asking if we wanted anything else. When we tipped him less because of the poor service, he had the nerve to come back to our table and "recommend" that the gratuity is normally 18%! He did not leave us alone until I told him that his service was rude and inattentive and that gratuities are normally at the customer's discretion based on service.
Her Majesty Says "No"

I hereby declare that Tamarind is horribly overrated for those who know their Indian. But, it's good for NY standards - indeed, it is rather trendy. Then again, would you really take a date to an Indian? ... you would? ... oh dear. GSTQ.

This restaurant is definitely Ian Schrager meets the Indian equivalent of Jean Georges...or somebody. The glassed-in kitchen makes you wonder how the cooks work in all that heat, but when you get your food, you're so overwhelmed you stop caring. Exquisite Indian cuisine without feeling overpowered by curry. Convenient location makes it even more attractive. Gotta see it to believe it.

Overcowded, overpriced, and surly wait-staff. With below average food to boot? It was simply horrible. There are just too many other choices in this town to have to eat at Tamarind. Seek them out and avoid the experience I had.

believe me, i have had such great indian food after a long time. The chefs have done a great job in using the spices and bringing out the authentic indian taste.

I cant wait to go to tamarind again....lamb chops are excellent, and its not just the food- service and decor are very impressive. I must say my whole perception of Indian food was limited to a few dishes , its been a learning exprience eachtime i've been to this place. Thanx to our waiter, his suggestions were really good.
No competition from any other Indian

I was introduced to Tamarind by my boyfriend last year, and I have been enchanted by it. We have been there every month since then. I love their service, friendliness, personal care, delicious food and the aura of elegance. I have chosen Tamarind as the place to have my upcoming Engagement Reception!
