Plan on waiting even if you have a reservation...

Booked a table for 14, two months in advance, for my birthday. Running late, I called numerous times to say we would be a few minutes late. They said the reservation was good for 15 min. after the booked time, and when we arrived 10 min late, we ultimately lost our reservation, and had to wait at least an hour and half to get seated, in a very tight area. We waited in the bar area for a little while until we were forced to go upstairs and stand for the rest of our wait. Once we were seated, everything was pretty okay. Personally it's not worth the hype and if you're not into the whole singles scene or being in a crowded area to the point where you're pressed up against someone else's body, i advise not going, at least not on a Saturday night.

Terrific delivery experience

I had heard good things so decided to try Tao when I had a craving for Asian, a staple in my native Oz. It was DeliveryWeek so I took the fixed price special and it was great value. The chicken dumpling appetizers were good but the filet beef and udon noodles entree was fantastic - the beef was surprisingly tender and top quality. The banana pudding with fortune cookie crumble was an amazing surprise - layers of sponge and fresh banana and banana cream. Yum! So good that I tried again a few nights later and was not disappointed. This time tempura shrimp and Kung Pao chicken with delicious dipping sauces were wonderful. The delivery time was quick and the delivery person courteous. My only question is whether they cook with MSG as I got a bad headache each night after I ate.

Reservations Don't mean anything

I have read many reviews and several mention how long a wait, even with a reservation. I totally agree. If you have a reservation and arrive on time, you should be seated on or near the time. Not have to wait an hour or more. After 25 years of managing restaurant's and kitchens, this wins the award."Longest Wait" Drinks are to small, lack flavor and alcohol content seemed lost.

First review I have ever written about anything, and only doing it now because I feel compelled to inform. Went here for a special anniversary. While the decor, vibe and the cocktails were exceptional, the food and the service were disappointing to say the least. From water glasses that sat empty for 10+ minutes to practically begging a waiter that wasn't ours for a drink menu, there is great room for improvement. The worst was the food. We ordered the Peking duck for two, which is a platter of sliced cucumbers, scallions, some sauce, some tortilla wraps, and a fairly pleasant looking duck which was drier than a Mojave desert bathroom. If that's not a shame at 34 bucks per person, the worst part is that this duck had bones! A dish that you expected to wrap with veggies and sauce, how can you have bones in the meat? after wrapping it all together, I took a big bite and chipped my tooth! A complete failure of a dish, which is disappointing at a restaurant of this caliber. Overall, save your money and your teeth. If you want Asian food and something trendy, go to any given Thai food place in Tribeca.

Timing: 10:30pm reservation, seated at 11:25. Appetizer came out at 12:30, dinner at 1:15am, birthday cake at 1:45am. Food: Mediocre at best. DEFINITELY over rated. Music: Like a club, can't hear the person across from you. These are all things that go with a trendy place with a crazy atmosphere. 1 star because of the bouncers! We were leaving at 2am right after cake and while I was using the ladies room the bouncer came in the bathroom as I was peeing and said I needed to get out, they were closing. My fiancé who was waiting for me asked him to leave the bathroom until I came out and he literally got in our face. He was telling us they're closing and to get the hell out while we were walking up the stairs to leave! We asked him to calm down because we were going and he started calling us b*tches and was grabbing my fiances arm and standing inches from his face, it was outrageous and ridiculous! He was so aggressive and uncontrollable like he was on something. Immediately found a manager who literally had to hold back his bouncer who was still cursing at us and saying to hit him and 'let's go.' Manager asked us to leave saying they're from a security company and not direct Tao employees and he couldn't control them. What an experience. Have never been treated this way especially after paying $1,100.00 for a birthday dinner for 10 people. All this place cares about is their money and obviously not their costumers safety.
