Steak au was really peppery and a poor cut, sticky chicken was dry and mixed with guacamole and fries honesty it was an expensive burrito, tuna tartar had too much of a filler, butternut squash soup was great

I've had dinner here now several times, and I've enjoyed each experience. All I can say to the readers of the poorer reviews is - it's a very small byob restaurant that does not take reservations. If it was not a good restaurant, there wouldn't be so many people standing outside in inclement weather waiting for you finish your food and give them your table. The waitresses have all been there for years, are down to earth and do not put up with bullshit or impatient attitudes. However, they will remember you if you've been there before, and the nicer you are the more likely they are to cater to you. A word about some of the dishes that got bad reviews: the chicken pot pie is to die for, so maybe the person who gave it a poor review just had it on an off night. The steak au poivre is incredibly spicy, and I must admit I didn't enjoy it as much as I'd hoped. But there are more good dishes than there are not, and it's byob so bring a great bottle of wine and give it a try!

Best kept secret in NY! Food is consistently good. BYO policy keeps the price down and I have always received good service in the 15-20 times I've eaten there.

After eating at Tartine this weekend, I was a little annoyed by the way we were treated and thought I would check further and see if any others have had a similar experience…turns out we are not the only ones. The real issue began when I went to leave and the server said that I did not tip enough and that a gratuity of $10 or more would be more appropriate (I had left $8). I felt the two dollars would not have a big impact on my life, maybe I made a mistake and just gave her another $2. Later in the evening I thought further about it and uncovered a host of issues. 1. The total on the bill was miscalculated, it should have been $50.25 not $51.25 (their checks are calculated by hand, and I don’t believe this was an accident). 2. The tax on the bill should have been $4.46 not $5.00 (obviously not an accident). 3. The service was OK, not horrible, not fantastic, a 15% tip should be appropriate which would equate to $7.54. In the end the $10 tip plus the errors on the check equates to 23%!!....entirely inappropriate!

Lucky to have a brief wait for indoor table( too chilly ); charming servers, food was great, especially potatoes on the side...bustling and crowded, my son says Tartine translated is No Elbow Room. Nice visit j

Tartine is the kind of place that one only finds in NY - delicious food in a tiny storefront where the customers put up with waits and cramped conditions despite the weather because the food is so good and the staff is so nice. Good french food and service. No wine so bring your own and bring cash. A good time will be had by all.

I've been looking forward to visting Tartine for quite some time. I was very dissapointed in the food. My fiance and I had the Spicy Chicken and the Chicken Pot Pie which are supposed to be two of the best menu items. They were not good at all. The goat cheese crouton appetizer was good but that's about it. The service was very poor and they mixed up our checks. The atmosphere and the fact that it's BYOB is nice, but i would never go back. It is definitely not worth waiting in line. Overrated!

I came here with some friends from out of town and while the food was adequate and pretty good value it lacked something. The steak au poivre was encrusted with pepper, good, but the sauce was not made with the juices of the meat, not so good. My dessert of macaroon with ganache was great with lovely frosty ice cream but the "tarte tatin" was limp and pathetic. When the waiter spilled red wine all over the table there was no apology, let alone a comp, which I would have thought was the least they could do. Overall-a mixed meal.

I was excited to take my wife to this restaurant. There are a few positive things to say about it - the waitresses hustled and were friendly, the appetizers and the dessert were good, however I ordered the steak au poivre as my entree and I could not eat it because it was bland and tasted like it was a poor cut of meat. I got the impression they were trying to cut corners where they could. I was very disappointed and would not go back there.
