Not only is the food mediocre and overpriced at this place, but now they have stooped so low as to get involved with fraudulent promoters who scam people out of their money. Tavern on the Green was the venue for a Halloween party from hell. Hundreds of people who had purchased tickets ranging from $60 and $130 tickets were turned away without explanation. Those who endured close to 2 hours of waiting like herded cattle were told to go home hours before the open-bar party was supposed to end by the police. The place was a mob scene, short of becoming a riot that put people's lives' in danger. TOTG failed to take resposibility for the event, instead poiting fingers at the promoters who are nowhere to be found. Stay away from this place, there are much better places to go to in NY.

Please don't waste your time and money - take it from a local!

I took my wife to TOTG for Valentine's Day after having received a review from a friend of horrible service, overpriced meals and average-at-best food. We have lived here for 2 years now and TOTG was on our list of things to do while here - bad idea. The food truly was average-at-best and we could have had a much better meal for $110/person. The service was horrible and they added an automatic gratuity of 20% without the possibility of reducing the amount. The only reason I can think for doing so is that tips have been historically bad so they had to institute an automatic gratuity to ensure their staff are "rewarded" for the horrendous service. With the contract for this space going out to bid this year, we can only hope that someone outbids TOTG and brings a restaurant to this location that is worthy of the surroundings. Please do not waste your time and money on this restaurant. There are too many great places to eat in NYC to even consider TOTG. Take it from a former tourist and current local!

I knew I was no longer a tourist...

...when I was not able to appreciate this New York icon in many more ways other than it having a heater and place to sit on a cold day. My elevated expectations of TOTG on Christmas Day were dashed, even as I am typically a tourist-turned-local who can appreciate a little cheese on my Gotham. The cocktails were fine, strong enough and tasty enough. The crab cake app was the highlight of the meal, though my friend who eats seafood way more regularly than I do said it was not the best she'd had. The turkey dinner, which I'd been looking forward to since perusing the menu a few days before, was absolutely unpalatable. Dessert was the final insult, as I could've made better from a box at home. Everything was lukewarm, lacking seasoning, and overcooked, most likely hours beforehand. Thumbs down. I can nearly always clean a plate of even the lousiest food, but I left so much that the waiter commented. He gave me a look that said, "Please don't give me hell; it's Christmas." So I didn't. But I won't be returning.

I went with a tourist group and had the standard group breakfast. The food was excellent, service was good, and the decor was splendid.

I have taken friends and family to the Tavern on The Green for celebrations over the past 5 years. The food is average, but it's ok. The ambiance and location make up for lack of haute cuisine. There was a time I would have turned my nose up at the concept of "the tourist trap," however I'm a little more mature now. It's ok to let your guard down and simply have a good time at a famous location. Let's get real, isn't New York, New York the ultimate tourist trap?

I went to tavern on the green completely expecting to love it! It started off well with the beautifully lit trees and the doorman helping me out of the cab.... But the food was really sub-par. I started with the lobster bisque which was actually quite good... but then my roast chicken came out and it was really bad. I've never just left my food on my plate, but this was simply not worth forcing down. Rather, I asked the waiter for another piece of bread. Dessert was descent, but nothing extraordinary. I'm just happy that it was restaurant week and I wasn't paying their actual prices for this food. To make matters worse, the waiter was rude and the line to retrieve my coat from the mandatory coat check was a solid 15 minute wait. Overall, a bad experience.

I took my mom to Tavern for her birthday this past weekend and we had a very pleasant experience contrary to what I've read online. In fact, I would go back! We had 12:15 brunch reservations for Saturday; we arrived on-time and were quickly seated. (Neither of us felt rushed at any point in time.) The food was very good; tasty, not too sweet (we both had the french toast) and the presentation was what I had expected. Our servers were friendly and attentive. And while the bill was on the high side for brunch, this shouldn't come as a surprise (since the menus are both listed online and are posted when you walk through the front entrance.) If you're curious and have never been, go. Enjoy the views, enjoy the food and sit back and relax. That's what we did and we had a nice afternoon!

Thirteen friends and myself were able to take a weekend trip to NYC. Several had never flown and eleven had not been to Tavern on the Green. We had a very enjoyable evening, the drinks and food were delicious was a concensus from all the group and our waiter was most helpful!! This was my third visit to Tavern on the Green and each time has been very enjoyable. Also, our group of thirteen would most surely visit the Tavern again if we should be able to visit NYC again as a group. It was a big part of our weekend excursion and added to a most happy memory!!

This restaurant does not deserve its status its tacky and over rated. The decor is trashy and tasteless. The light fittings are plastic and gawdy. The staff were rude and unprofessional. We actually caught the waiter eating in the restaurant while he was supposed to be working!! The food was not well presented and the quality was poor. I have had better tasting McDonalds!! The prices were ridiculous too compared to Pastis which is a higher class of establishment. The mediterranean seafood Risotto was just stodgy and a minute from being cold. The turkey dinner was also awful with some new breed of vegatables! My friend had the shrimp cocktail, which had 5 shrimps over the side of a cocktail glass filled with ice and a nasty tasting sauce - now for $20 you would expect so much more!!!
