Thalassa and Fantis School have the same owners. Fantis Foods is a major player in the Greek import game and if they won't let the employees call in sick then Maybe they are getting rich off the sweat off the backs of others??? The food at Thalassa is basically dressed up Greek food. However, when it comes to taste, its only above average (below average if you factor in price), and it is not exceptionally delicious Greek food. I expected some surprising flavors. We had mostly seafood, plus the lamb shank. The lamb was actually inedible. Way too salty!! And not very fresh either. We would have sent it back if anyone had actually come by to ask how things were. In the end, we just sucked it up, since the rest of the meal was not as bad. Lobster was OK, and the sole was not bad either.

ambiance is very good here. nice location in tribeca. very pleasant (and knowledgable) manager. food was good not great. had the scallop app. too much going on with the dish, needs to be simplified. had the skate and it was good. the best thign about this place is that the wine list (which carries some VERY nice names) is half price on mondays thru the end of february. this means that with some wines they end up being cheaper here than in the store. i will be back every monday because there are many wines id like to try on the list (kosta browne, marcassin, ect..)... you should take advantage of this while it lasts. i know i will.

If you want to impress your date - you won't go wrong with choosing this place. Decor totally gives you relaxed atmosphere of romantic Mykonos, food is just superb - starting from perfomance till last piece. Sommellier took excellent care of us, as well as all service was attentive and fast. We really enjoyed our evening, oh, don't forget Ekmek-Kataifi - dessert ranked as a "must"! Everything was just Perfecto! =)

From the moment you walk in until you leave you feel treated like royalty. The fish is amazing, try the Lethrini its flown in from Greece. The apps are also fantastic, wrapped scallop or octapus. Very strong hard to find wines on their list from all over. I have become a regular, hey why not if everything is great from food, wine, service and decor.

The other reviews for this restaurant were so high, that I figured Thalassa was a good bet for a wonderful seafood dining experience. Well, aside from the food being just average, what was much worse was our waiter. This man did whatever he could to make you spend extra money. We trusted him with his recommendations. He highly suggested an extra seafood course saying that this was standard at Thalassa. We didn't realize that the portions were large in the first place. It was way too much food. A good waiter would have never recommended this much food. Also, when I asked for a recommendation from the menu, he mentioned the lobster (the lobster on the menu was $24.00) - but instead he served me the lobster special that was not on the menu (which was $62.00). When you eat at an upscale restaurant, you expect that you can trust your waiter and feel taken care of, not taken by your waiter.

Went on a business dinner here and had a great time--ordered tons of appetizers/wine/entrees and everything was terrific. It was expensive but the food tastes exactly how seafood should taste. At the end of the meal they give out a great little dessert which is a perfect ending.

Being at Thalassa made me feel like I was in Mykonos again - minus the mediterranean. The decor makes you feel like you're on Odysseus' ship with sails unfurled. The fish is displayed beautifully and so fresh it practically dances onto your plate. And if fish is not for you, the menu if full of delicious meat dishes as well. The waiters and hosts are most helpful to those unfamiliar with the cuisine, so if you don't know spanikapitos from spegetti - no worries - they will help you design a meal that makes your pallet sing! You'll definately say ... efharisto (thank you) when the meal is over!

The restaurant is designed as one of the most elegant and sexy places in the city...More importantly the fish is fresh and as delicious..Well prepared and inventive ...As if you were in Greece on the shore of the Aegean...Service is extremely professional and courteous...It is a bit pricey but well worth it..
