I have worked near THalia for 6 years. I went back yesterday for the first time in 3 years. I was apalled. It was one of the worst meals I have ever had in NY. The lamb shank I ordered was near inedible, however I was with clients and did not want to make a scene. The "roasted root vegetables" it was served with were cooked into little pieces of rubber. I cannot understand how a chef lets a dish like that leave the kitchen. Everthing else was subpar. I am disappointed that this restaurant has fallen so far. It was never above mediocre... but now it is horrendous. please save yourself and do not go.

Service keeps getting worse; food does not get better

Oh, Thalia. It is right by the C/E, which makes it convenient. And rarely do you need a reservation. Of course, I am starting to see why: I have been four times (quick-meal options are limited in Midtown at lunchtime), and the service keeps getting worse, while the food does not get any better. The food is not bad, by any means, but it is certainly nothing to write home about. Because I could make the frittata myself; the salmon is oily; the bread is dry; even the burger has lost its touch. The servers consistently forget to bring the drinks, or forks, or the check--even when you have asked repeatedly. Nothing malicious: they are just absent-minded. Frankly, absent-minded is the best way to describe Thalia. Pity, because it is so convenient.

Thalia presents American cusine in a pleasant ambiance, with very good service and attractive prices. The food is very good, but seldom spectacular. Nonetheless this is an excellent place given it's 8th Avenue location.

On a quiet Sunday afternoon, the manager, Cindy, hollered at my husband from down the bar area, where she was hanging with friends, instead of walking over to see what he needed. In an obnoxious, demanding tone, she kept ordering him back to his seat instead of finding out what he needed (she kept yelling, "we prefer that you use table service" - we did, but the server wasn’t familiar with the drink my husband ordered, so she went to ask the bartender, then never came back to find out how my husband wanted the drink, so he went to make sure the bartender made the drink to his liking so he wouldn't have to send it back). Serious hospitality professionals would be appalled at Cindy's lack of decorum and respect for the customer. A manager should try to make sure the customer has what he needs, not attack a customer in such a conspicuously loud, arrogant voice from afar.

Big theatre district haunt. Hostess a bit abrupt, service good. Very simple menu. Good oyster sampler. Crab cakes crispy but heavy on the fill. Dessert menu a bit boring.

My husband and I went to Thalia for a restaurant week lunch. We were lured by the great reviews and the extremely attractive decor. Unfortunately, the food didn't even begin to live up to the hype. The appetizers (sweet potato soup and crabcakes) were passable, but nothing exceptional; ditto for my husband's main course (a roasted chicken sandwich). My main course (mustard seed encrusted salmon with cucumber risotto) was inedible. The salmon had a strange, extremely bitter aftertaste, and the risotto was overcooked and gluey. For dessert, I had the chocolate ganache cake, which was fine (but again, nothing special); my husband's assorted sorbets were inedible due to being frozen so solidly he couldn't get a spoon into them, even after letting them sit for 15 minutes. Perhaps this restaurant just gives sub-par food to those partaking of the restaurant week promotions, but we certainly won't be back to find out.

My experience at Thalia was one that will never be forgotten. I sat at the bar and got very attentive service. The cocktail menu is definetly one of a kind, and then to hear that they are changing it. I can't wait to see what they offer next. After having an outstanding cocktail we went for dinner. It got even better, the tuna tartare was SO fresh I couldn't stop eating, I wanted more. We then ordered oysters for a second course, my god they were like butter. So fresh and outstanding the taste still lingers in my mouth. Overall I can't wait to go back.

I went to Thalia before going to see a show. I had a corn and shrimp ravioli, which was good but a bit too rich for my taste. I also had the chocolate cake, which was also rich but in all the right ways. They are prepared that many people are going to the theater and the service was timely.

I visited Thalia prior to going to the theatre on Monday. What a find this place is. Absolutely beautifully maintained, soaring ceilings and old french posters. I had the prix fixe menu for $30.03, I think the dessert was my favorite part of the meal. I will definetely return, I had the best house infused strawberry mint mojito!!!
