Horrible lobster roll. Extremely salty, ridiculously small piece of lobster on a dry roll: $29 each. An insult to anyone who knows what a real lobster roll is!! Obviously they make their make their money with tourists! NEVER AGAIN!

I took two foodie friends to JDOH for a late Sunday night dinner and from the moment we entered they loved it. Jetson's fishtanks over the bar, fun cocktail menu (the bartender makes a proprietary gin for the restaurant). We were hungry, so started with toasty buttery Parker House rolls and a crab and avocado mouse that was so delicious we couldn't get over it. We had a dozen east coast oysters that were dainty and sweet. We loved both crudos we tried but the real show stopper was the kedgeree - a smoked fish, rice curry dish topped with crispy onion and sliced green onion. It has ribbons of egg that seem like noodles. We ordered a second one. Marrow with mussels and clams in a green broth also yum yummy. Everything was wonderful. I'll admit, it's always easy to enjoy tapas style eating when your financial planner friend, who has deep pockets, is ordering and paying, because it ain't cheap at John Dory.

Date suggested we meet up near Curry Hill. Generally enjoy ACE lobby, so suggested we meet there. Got cozy in lobby and figured we'd grab a bite at the John Dory even though we had heard not such good things. Nobody queued up in entryway and a few tabletops were empty yet the hostess tells me it's an hour wait (?!) Whatever, I head back to lobby and we enjoy a couple drinks. Pretty much forgot about dinner when faux punk hostess calls me an hour and 10 mins later at which point there are alot of empty tables. We order a few things, all pricey, all Tapas sized. THe first, an undercooked slimy wet lobster covered in tomalley (u know, that nasty green digestive juice they spew), a dish about as appetizing as it sounds and gone in 4 bites. Next, the octopus and the stuffed squid; both tasty, on par with what you might get at a Psilakis place or a good Tapas or Med resto. They pushed the Parker house rolls, which were also tasty but should really be comped after the Disneyesque waits and sky high prices. The crowd seemed touristy. THe decor interesting but the tables overlook ugly Curry Hill storefronts with our seat directly facing one of those flashing Halal meat style signs. Not exactly charming and not somewhere you feel like lingering.

Simply scary experience . Served two oysters that smelled so bad that they saved us from an ER visit. The wait staff acted like it was no big deal which led me to question how often this was happening. When we got the check, they even had the nerve to charge us for the bad oysters Seriously avoid this place - it's not worth risking your health.

Couldn't find a place to grab a bite in the ACE lobby, so we decided to give the reborn John Dory a try. Slow night, no wait, nice hostess seats us in a pleasant table perhed up on stools with good view of faux industrial/ Ye olde New York vibe we've come to expect from these places. Decent beers on tap. Hungry but a bit perplexed at odd assortment of small plates and sides only menu but attempted to cobble together a meal for two. Started with lobster chowder, was rich and chunky but had an odd sour (vinegary?) undertone and for double digits certainly did not expect a specimen cup sized portion. Next, a crab salad which had minute crab fragments and was smaller than what you'd find drizzled atop your trout amandine, also mid double digits. A chorizo stuffed squid which was nice, sort of what you might see listed among 50 other offerings at any decent tapas joint. Total tab, close to 60 bucks each. No wine, no entrees, no dessert. They should fly the Jolly Roger matey, cause we've just been hornswaggled!
