I am truly stunned by the string of negative reviews for this restaurant, it's a neighborhood favorite for me and my whole group of friends. The menu is indeed eclectic, so if you want to criticize a restaurant for attempting variety then I guess go ahead, but one of the things I love about it is it satisfies so many moods! I can go here for a tasty burger or for a big steaming bowl of Pho, both are excellent and always hit the spot. Don't be swayed by the nay-sayers, The New French is charming and delicious.

As the NYMag review acknowledges, this place really isn't French, which is fine, but it really isn't anything other than kind of schizophrenic. We couldn't make sense of the menu and, once we did, were pretty disappointed with our choices. We ordered the pizza bianca of the day, which was not served on flatbread at all, but just on toast (apparently they were out of the bread but not out of the topping and failed to inform us). Then we had the veggie curry, which had a strong tomato paste sugary flavor, and the burger, which greasy, flavorless and waaay undercooked (rare doesn't mean still mooing guys). The one highlight was the yummy tempura banana split... So pizza, curry, burger and tempura? Yeah, the new schizo is the right word.

What a pleasant surprise this unobtrusive restaurant turned out to be when we were too early to brunch at The Owl nearby. The New French Toast was delicious. Think rectangular fried dough with fresh blueberries, sliced pears, and sweet pineapple combined with an amazingly soft buttercream in a pot and warm maple syrup. I can't wait to go back and try the rest of their menu. Oh, and a very nice restroom. That says something.

My fiance' and I ate here on Monday night. We started out by sharing the pho, which both of us thought was delicious (request extra noodles as ours had less upon looking at other tables). We had the brisket in the pho and although it may not be traditional, it was excellent with enough spice to give it a kick. For dinner I had the braised short rib, which was very moist. The carrots and potatoes were slightly undercooked, but the flavor of the meat made up for it. My fiance had the roast chicken with vegetables in coconut milk and lemon grass, which had wonderful flavor and I would highly recommend. I would like to mention how pleasant the service was. Our waiter was extremely friendly and when I asked for a second glass of pinot noir and they only had enough for a 1/2 glass, he brought a full glass of a similar wine over on the house. Overall, a bit cramped, but the food was great and the excellent service sealed it for us to return.

Friday night. Party of 3. Only a 20 minute wait. Very friendly staff. Fine wine. Delicious mixed green salad. Red beet one less so because of awful liquid 'Parmiggiano' (a definite 'no go' when taking an Italian for dinner!). Very good halibut, pulled pork and burger entrees. A nice neighbourhood place indeed.

Not a good restaurant and with so many other options in this city I would definitely pass on trying this place! The menu is all over the place, leaving no room to create any type of perfect dish. I had the Vietnamese soup which was awful and had to real taste. The wait staff was very rude and only paid attention to their creepy regulars.

We had a HORRIBLE experience here. The food and decor were average. The service, however, was terrible. When our food was delayed (we waited for 30 minutes for a cold appetizer), we asked the waitress for an explanation and she got very defensive and kept giving an excuse about it being the kitchen's fault. "It's not my fault, there's nothing I could have done." In reality, what she could have done was to tell the kitchen to hurry up (instead of going outside for a smoking break) and then be apologetic about the delay. She then continued to make her case to her friends sitting next to us, saying "It wasn't my fault" as if we couldn't hear everything she was saying. If the food is delayed, that's forgivable. What's unacceptable is when a restaurant refuses to take blame for the delay, as if waiting for 30 minutes for a cold appetizer and asking about our food was being unreasonable or demanding. We won't be going back. I highly recommend that you save your money and patience and go elsewhere.
