It's not cool to smile at The Smile

Took a stroll down Bond St. on a beautiful summer morning. Weather was perfect. The birds were chirping. All I needed now was coffee and a nice spot to read my paper. So, I dropped in the The Smile. At first glance, The Smile is perfect. Very quaint and chill. But then you meet the staff. If there is a hipster mold out in williamsburg, these folks were made directly from it. Too cool to smile - kinda grumpy and put out that you are in their establishment. So, I thought I'd kill'em with kindness. I ordered an iced coffee and tipped $2 (on a $3 beverage). Still no smile. If that wasn't enough, when I asked if it was okay if I sit down enjoy my $5 coffee at a table they were very, very put out - even though I was the ONLY person in the place. When I left I said, "thank you guys very much." Still no smile. In summary, good coffee, cool place - hipster staff sucks.

The atmosphere is nice, and the food is fine. It's a step up from a normal place.

So sweet in an effortless way. If there were no such thing as review sites or food blogs, this would be a perfect example of a classic NY hidden gem. The food is delicious, fresh ingredients, newly inspired taste combinations. I have been for both lunch and dinner. I much prefer the lunch menu, but dinner is a good casual/comfortable go to. Definitely will continue dining here for brunch or lunch.

Tucked away, down some stairs on quiet Bond Street in NoHo, you'll find the warm and cozy restaurant, The Smile. The environment is relaxed and inviting, where you're surrounded by like-minded people who are there for a great meal and good service. Melia Marden, executive chef, also has a cookbook available, which you can conveniently buy at the restaurant itself. I started off with a cocktail, Smoke On The Water (tequila, ginger, lemon, agave, mezcal float). This drink was amazing.
