I have never written a review, but last night's dinner at Tia Pol promts me to very simply say, how authentic, good and tasty the tapas were. Six of us ( a mix of Italians, British and Americans) enjoyed A delicious array of tapas, hard to give a rating, the polpo, chorizo, green peppers, were our favourites. The deserts were surpisingly light, and absolutely delicious we tried all of them ! We all agreed it was better than most tapas ever eaten in Spain !! Great atmostphere and good service for a good night with friends or on a date.

Those of us who remember tapas in Spain are on the continual quest to duplicate what we had - and it's just not possible. But this place, owned and operated by a woman who lived in Madrid, is festive and they try to come through. Tapas are interesting and good with chorizos, cheese, sometimes grilled sardines, potatoes with mayo, and they're even recreating those delicious fried peppers. There's only one large table (for 6) and everyone else is at cramped tables or at the lively bar, but people don't seem to mind. It's a happy place. Sangria could be more flavorful so we order something else. I say bravo!

Brings consistently delicious food and warm service to a neighborhood that needs both. Often a wait, I try to go early or late to avoid the crowds. But so good.

crowded, good sangria (I usually don't like sangria that much), the server made good suggestions. All the plates were tasty. Price is right

Visited Tia Pol after a gallery walk on a rainy Saturday afternoon. Not very crowded (8-10 employees, 5-6 guests)at that time of the day. The waiter gave us the menu and they had some very mouthwatering sweets on it - just the right thing to go with a hot cafe con leche. When ready to order, we were surprised to learn that everything on the menu was only available after 6 PM. The only food they had on their bar menu was anchovies olives and the like. Certainly the right thing with a happy hour beer in the summer, but definetly not with our con leche (which was as good as the last one I had in Barcelona, by the way). Overall dissapointing, though, but everybody get's a second chance (or I will bring my own donuts from the Dunkin Donuts next door).

I've been a HUGE fan of Tia Pol for years and it has always been my standby for the best of tapas and sangria, but something just wasn't right tonight. Anyone know if there has been a recent change? Food was off, really salty and not cooked consistently. In one dish we had overcooked clams and nearly raw clams; bacalao that was like a true salt lick. I was needles to say, disappointed and hope it was just an off night!

Everyone always loves this little tapas place - I am never as impressed. I feel the food is hit or miss, but the ambiance is great. I prefer to head around the corner to El Quino Pinto on 24th or the other tapas restaurant on 9th avenue next to Company.

I don't see what the fuss was all about, but then I realized ... no one was eating. Small, cramped and uncomfortable, the real disappointment was the food. I know Tapas. I am Catalan/Portuguese and practically grew up sampling Tapas in the Tri-state area. This was by far the worst! I ordered a few plates and as the shark triangles came out, I was absolutely HORRIFIED! There were 5 pieces of shark about half the size of a chicken McNuggets [which I would have preferred]. The Clams were tiny and not special [my mother makes the same thing at home] as was everything else. The almonds were greasy and unappealing. The Pepers Gernika were unappealing, just fried. Overall the portions were terrible. The food was average. There was ZERO value, and the service pretty much sucked. All of the 6 plates I ordered could fit with room left over on one plate and I dropped around 55$, AND HAD TO EAT SOMEWHERE ELSE AFTER. There are plenty of better places to try in the city as well as Newark, NJ. I wanted to like this place but It ended up being a waist of money.

This claustrophobia inducing space should be avoided at all costs. Not only the tapas are flavorless and undercooked, the waiters are among the rudest we’ve encountered in NYC. The pimientos estilo gernika was oily yet still had no hint of flavour. The paquetitos de jamon left a sour aftertaste and the cheese must have been a few months past its expiration date?. Finally, the gampas shrimp came with a strong odor from the dripping juice that was reason enough to simply skip the dish. The "service" was centered on a group of 3 people seated at the bar who seemed to be friends of the owner. After being completely ignored for more than 45 minutes, we finally managed to get the attention of one of the waitresses who was rude and obnoxious. If the place is meant as a drinking joint for the owner and his buddies, perhaps a sign to that effect could be helpful for the rest of us so we can skip this little noisy whole in the ground. I would also suggest that the owner should invest in a few lessons of common courtesy and manners and etiquette for his employees.
