Everything a buffet should be, except for the occasionally slimy fish

There's really nothing quite like an all-you-can-eat buffet, where all you have to do is show up (in reasonably loose clothing), grab a plate, and eat till you're cross-eyed. Compared to a lot of other Asian buffets in the city, I've always found Todai to have consistently good offerings, particularly when it comes to seafood. The sushi, on the other hand, can be a mixed bag. While having lunch with a group of friends, several of us noticed a strange slimy substance coating the tuna and mackarel sushi... We didn't bother trying to determine if it had come from the fish or a human, but we did mention it to the manager. I don't want to assume anything about the prep or food storage situation behind the buffet line, but this has certainly put a damper on my subsequent visits to Todai. I'll be back, but will probably skip the raw stuff.

This buffet has one of the best varieties of sushi. There's a lot to choose from as far as hot dishes go, sometimes they are slow to refill the trays for certain items. Can't say many good things about the service or the atmosphere. It gets really packed and the clientele gets pushy...like a cattle drive. The harsh fluorescent lighting and bad decor don't help either. Not surprised at the last reader's comments about the wait staff. All in all, you'll have a solid meal, but just prepared to fight some crowds. Don't go here for a special occasion or if you're trying to impress a date.
Good Food, AWFUL service

Decent food with lots of variety, but waiter requested a 20% tip (via a handwritten note on the bill). We left 15% cash tip, which we though was fair for a buffet. He kept coming back to our table to ask for more tip money. We were 7 ppl, but they don't have a policy about tips for larger groups, so we didn't feel obligated. We didn't receive any special treatment, they seated us in a 100 degree mezzanine even though we made a reservation, never refilled our beverages, and some of our finished plates sat at the table for long periods of time. Felt as though they targeted us b/c they thought we were tourists(?). Seemed like mgmt put the waiter up to it (he ran over to someone in a suit after he got his tip the first time). If you must...go for the food, but BEWARE of horrible service!
