Guacamole is pretty good (as are the margaritas), but the place is a downright fiasco as far as waste is concerned. They use plastic containers -- which they throw out -- FOR EVERY SINGLE ORDER. I understand about the ridiculous waste of non-biodegradable materials for takeout (actually I don't), but for in-restaurant food? Every order of guacamole, every taco and sandwich? That's just lazy and irresponsible. For that factor, I'm giving Tortaria an "Awful" rating for everything. Stop going the Bush/Cheney way for handling waste. This is Manhattan. The planet is being choked by plastic waste and cities like ours play a major role in that. Use plates, then wash them. It's not rocket science. Stop being so lazy and wasteful.

I recently hosted a party at Tortaria and was so impressed with the place. I knew the food and drinks would be great (they always are) and I love the decor, but it was really the employees that made everything run so smoothly. They were professional, organized, attentive and very friendly. As a result, I was able to actually have fun and socialize with my guests instead of worrying about when the food was coming out. So many of my friends have told me what a great time they had and have actually been back since. Tortaria has a great vibe, delicious food and drinks at great prices, an organized staff, a solid playlist plus it's in is in a central location - you can't really ask for more. Good pick for a quick bite or a party venue.

I will sum it up for you all: $8.50 gets you a very small sandwich that will not satisfy you, even if you are not that big and not that hungry. It tastes pretty good but not great. The fries are terrible. Basically, you are overcharged for an offensively small portion of upscale Mexican street food and you are supposed to feel that the "hip vibe" makes up for this. Somehow I got the sense that they believe that you will find the food to be such a revelation to the palate that you will forget about how little they are giving you. Not so. I would not go back and I would not recommend going. In fairness, the service there is friendly and fine. That, however, does not make it a destination.
