I notice some of these reviews are a couple years old, so let me update everyone: this is a great restaurant! It has some of the classic French bistro dishes, but others seem all their own. The trout is amazing and refreshing, the hake and clams en papillote is light and delicious. I like a vodka martini with my meal, and was introduced to Brooklyn vodka, which was very good. Tres raffine! Tres Francais!

My wife and I ate dinner at Tournesol last night and had one of the best meal experiences we've had in 5 years of living in NYC! The staff was warm, friendly and accommodating (even treating us to complimentary glasses of their home-made liquer). We went on a Monday night and the place wasn't crowded at all and we had such a fun, relaxing dinner, even chatting with the staff a bit. We ordered the snails appetizer and the lobster bisque (soup of the day), lamb shank and beef bourguignon and shared the marquis au chocolat for dessert. The snails were so good that I almost wanted to lick the plate at the end! The beef was excellent - big chunks of crispy bacon, tender pearl onions and carrots and big beef cubes that were incredibly tender. All of this served on a bed of tagliatelle noodles. A very filling and satisfying meal. The lamb was quite good too - very tender and juicy meat, grilled vegetables as an accompaniment and a chickpea sauce with a distinctly North African (maybe Algerian) influence. Wonderfully tasty dish with such unique flavors...YUM!! If you're interested in good food, friendly staff and an unforgettable dining experience then check out Tournesol! And ask to try their home-made liquer!!

Amazing food, great ambiance, and the desserts are to die for. We had the specials a few nights ago. Pork belly is infinitely more delicious than it sounds. For dessert we had some sort of delicious frutty tart. Excellent dining experience.

Best French restaurant in New York City, and it's in LIC(!) I went once, and now I go every week. The food, service, atmoshpere, prices are all unbelievable. The steak frites will change your life. The chocolate dessert puts you in a blissful coma. The specials are equally fantastic. The staff are the real deal: French accents, very personable. I still am amazed by how low the bill is at the end. Going here is literally the favorite part of my week.

The staff, efficient, articulate and a pleasure to be around. The ambiance was inviting and comfortable. The prices were very reasonable, two appetizers, two main dishes, and two cocktails, plus tip was less than $80. Did I mention the food??? Textures, presentation, quantity, quality was the best I've had all year. Really.

This was an email to a dear friend inquirying from me "need a great French restaurant Danielle!" Speaking of Tournesol - Their specials are scrumptious! They make a lamb stew that is so tender, with pearl onions and leeks and small new potatoes, garnished w/vegetables. It's another special, prepared only during winter months. From their set menu they've got great dishes: a roasted chicken w/garlic dish, or braised beef in a bordelaise sauce, a grilled filet of salmon, oh, oh, or the rosemary monkfish! Though restaurant is small, the ambiance is so cozy, so comforting. [My twin's electric wheelchair power was disengaged and the folks of Tournesol bumped my sister's wheelchair up the one or two steps into the restaurant quite gracious.] Provincial [French] music playing. Suga, the folks speak French first, English 2nd.

This place is consistently great and consistently busy. And cheap: amazing steak frites for well under $20. I go as often as I can -- perfect French food, wonderful service plus a comprehensive and reasonable wine list. Fun neighborhood, too; always worth it to wander to the waterfront after dinner.

I am going to this restaurant as often as I can. Lets put it this way I always make up some excuse to go there mostly business lunch but also for a romantic dinner. It is only 3minutes and 27seconds on the 7train from Grand Central stop First Vernon Jackson you come out look around and it is right there . Have lunch and in 4 minutes you are back in Manhattan.

This really is the real deal - incredibly delicious food prepared by a chef from France, served with hospitality, warmth, and conviviality by owners and a small staff from France! It's moderately priced as well! You can save a fortune on the airfare an feel like you're in the southwest of France for an evening.
