Good food, good prices and a lovely owner

It was the 1st time my boyfriend and I tasted Australian food, but we found pies and sides very good. Prices are very cheap, especially for Manhattan. The owner is lovely and very nice. The place is small, just 2 tables, but we liked it 'cause we found it clean and "homely"

Aussie happiness baked into a flaky crust

On my three week holiday to Western Australia, I ate twice the amount of pies the average Australian eats in a year. I think I might know the difference between a good and bad pie. The pies here were great and they even had Coopers in the fridge. There was a good variety of pies offered, so I'll be going back soon. The staff was nice and the place, although small, was a good place to have a casual meal.

The pies here are exceptional! I came here just before they closed, and was lucky to get two for $5! I got the chicken pie, which had the surprising ingredients of bacon and leek - and the leek really lifted up the pie! The pastry was buttery and fluffy, and the staff (a New Zealander nevertheless) was lovely. It's nice to find an Aussie place that satsified my Aussie cravings. If you also like chocolate, be sure to buy a packet of Tim Tams! If you haven't tried these gorgeous chocolate biscuits, then you should - however be warned, you will crave them for life! Oh, and the place has decent coffee, especially if you don't like the sweet coffee or burnt/bitter coffee available generally in NYC.

Cheap Pies, What's Not to Like?

I love places like this, a genuine Aussie owner, bar food made from scratch from the person behind the counter, and a menu written on a chalkboard. The place is small, but it's worth a visit.

Hidden Gem

The tuck shop is comfortable, cheap, and most importantly, the food is excellent. My Australian friend Aleks took me here for a pie floater (standard meat pie covered in pea soup) and I was completely blown away. If you go on Thursday, try the bangers and mash pie; it's unreal. The tuck shop is the best late night food spot south of 14th street and possibly all of Manhattan. However, be warned: once you visit the tuck shop, you are bound to come back.
