I have been here a couple of times over the years. But I was shocked at what I saw from the staff, aside from the soggy broken dumplings we were served: There were two black female patrons in their late 20s-mid 30s one average-sized, the other, overweight. As soon as they left the four Chinese male cooks and female at the register laughed out loud, it was so obvious they were ridiculing THEM since they had just walked out-- and my daughter and I were the only other patrons there at the time. As soon as I could, I approached the Chinese girl at the register and told her it was rude and inappropriate to laugh like that -- she apologized and said sorry -- which made the admission more distasteful -- And I told them I would never go back to spend my money there, especially since it was not only weight BUT also racial discrimination. MORE importantly, my daughter is bi-racial (Black/PRican)!! Its a shame this world is full of hate, judgement and disgust! I am so sick of this, wake up people -- NYC is still a melting pot... pun intended! Fusion of great foods and cultures is what this great city is known and admired for by those near and far. I live in NYC and yes, I am a proud Latina who loves the entire world. Show love and respect, NYC.

The handmade boiled veggie dumplings were amazing! And for only $3.... wow.

The price of admission to experience the symphony of tastes that is the vegetable sesame pancake sandwich at Vanessa's is $2.71 after tax. The sandwich is a filling lunch or snack that hits all the high notes with the sweetness of its cucumber and carrots against the mild spiciness of the dressing and bite of the cilantro. The cool fresh vegetables, take you up the scale from cucumbers to carrots to a crescendo provided by the soft, but crunchy, warm and flavorful, fresh-fried sesame pancake.

The sign out front reads "recession special" so clearly V-Dumplings is catering to dealfinders like me. The food is average at best but it is quick and you are guaranteed to be satisfied. I would come here again with friends to grab a quick bite and if they are on a tight budget. Would I bring a date here? Absolutely not. Vanessa works the register and she occasionally gets confused when using a credit card so I recommend to carry cash just in case. You'll only need about $7 for a whole meal.
