Victorâ€™s cafĂ© is an example of what is wrong with New York. Eating there is a â€śpaying more for lessâ€ť experience. Iâ€™ve eaten their Sunday â€śbrunchâ€ť special, of which most selections were eggs. The meals were quickly prepared, sloppy, and all a la carte. I paid less for a much better a la carte meal at the Blue note, and there I at least got a show. The only show at Victorâ€™s is the constant sexual harassment of the female staff. Iâ€™d also like to warn vegetarians who wish to dine there. When I ate there late Sunday, most of their vegetarian choices were thrown together vegetable plates, not true dishes; and most contained chicken broth, thus not being vegetarian. With the exception of the hostess, the staff was un-knowledgeable, and rude. The only plus side was the music, which was probably a satellite station, and that you could dine exclusively in Spanish. This is one of the worst dining experiences Iâ€™ve had.

I'm from Jersey and we have this really good Cuban restaurant, Cuban Petes in Montclair. Victor's Cafe is my Cuban Petes in NYC. The portions aren't big but the taste and quality surpasses portion sizes. I suggest the Bombon Cubano dessert for anyone who likes chocoloate and coconut.

The food is nice. The service is courtious... but there are quite some Cuban places in NYC where the food is nearly as good, but prices are half. And where the atmosphere is warmer. Simply too expensive for what is on offer.

Food as good as my mother used to make, sometimes better! If you have never had their "vaca frita" you do not know what you are missing. Bst sangria I've ever had and if you go on a Saturday from November through March, DO NOT miss their "garbanzo" soup. This is the best Cuban restaurant in the New York-New Jersey metropolitan area. Only Miami has a few comparable places.

Let me start off with a little tip regarding this restaurant.In the winter DO NOT sit in the back.Due to the skylights it does get cold. Now.Lets get down to eating:Located right in the theater district.Pre-Theater Reservations a MUST. This place es muy popular,mi Amigo.Very good Cuban food.Nicely prepared.Especially the "Ropa Vieja"(Translation:Old Clothing.. But tastes nothing like it).It is shredded skirt steak braised in a garlicky sauce...($16.50) I also love the Fried Platanos(Plantains-Tostones con mojo Golden-fried green plantains with garlic sauce...$5.50).Try the Sangria.Service can be unattentive at times.Salud!!!

I called for post theatre reservations and was told it would be no problem. It was a problem. The service was rushed and sloppy. I was not told of specials, and when asking about certain dishes, I was told it was too late to order. If told when I called for reservations,that service would be rushed, I would not have gone. What I did eat, black bean soup and a salad was excellent. Desserts were told to me by a waiter who spoke very little English. I couldn't wait to leave. I felt as if the meal was a race between me and the waiter as to who would get out the door the fastest.
