The decor is very beautiful: though a few tables might be a tad "dark", it's probably the best I've seen in NY. As for the food, I tried the pre-theater menu at 35$. The raw tuna was very good and the mushroom and avocado carpaccio was fantastic (but so small unfortunately). Though the crispy-tofu was bad, the slow baked salmon was delicious. Both the pineapple dessert and wam chocolate cake were excellent.

Had great experiences in JoJo, Spice Market and 66, BUT completely opposite in Vong. Food and decor are ok. But the service was horrible. The waiters offered no smile, no communication, no warmness to the customers. They were slow and unattentive even when asked --- low-end service in an acclaimed restaurant (or maybe in the old days). A simple inquiry of the b-day cake cutting fee turned into a furious argument. The manager, Siz Lakhkar's attitude was shockingly rude. Being his customer actually felt like being his servants, taking his insults and accusation in his arrogant &bitter tone. He offered no help nor explanation, but comments like "I am done with you..Maybe you haven't been to enough restaurants like ours...if you dont want to pay, dont pay, just call the police," and simply walking away from us before we could react. I was confused. What made him act like he was the king of Thailand? Was it really the fee as he commented? Or his inner bitterness? Tried to call corp GM, Christian. No response either.

Table of 12 was $100/per person without wine but with cocktails. The value would've been great if the food and service was anything you'd expect for $100/pp meal. The wait staff are clumsy, inexperienced, rude and often times forgetful. You'd think they'd be the best of the best at a Jean Georges. The food was not as good as I've had at places in my neighborhood and I live in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. You can get the same dishes, with better curry, for cheaper at many restaurants in Manhattan. The apps and the entrees were cold, the desserts were bland and boring... I went to Vong wanting an experience and left with a stomach ache and $100 missing. I felt robbed. Maybe this restaurant was a hit in the 90s but it's still stuck there. At least the birthday girl had fun!!!

This has to be Jean-Georges' least effective restaurant. It is long on decor and short on good food. So loud that it is hard to think, let alone talk to the person next to you. The starters were excellent and gave an idea of what the kitchen is capable of. However, they are very spicy. The bottle of great white burgundy was lost on this course. Assuming that the entrees would follow suit, we switched to beer. Wrong. The entrees were bland and not interesting. Should have saved the wine for that course. No input from the waiter, of course.

Well, went to vong for the second time... first time it was amazing, had the tasting menu. This time opted for the lobster. Was subpar, the wine was awful and the appitizer left something to be desired. Wouldnt go back there but would consider other restaurants in the JG chain. It seems as though Vong has turned into an upscale chain restaurant. I miss the days of old with the fabulous menu and JG actually still payed attention to this restaurant. Service was also not so good, for the most part, could not understand the waiters, although they were curtious they were a bit bothersome and never had the same server twice! Also it was too loud and packed for this type of restaurant! I think nobu or tao would be a better bet! Bon Apetit!

I took some out of town guests to Vong for a 5:45pm dinner reservation. We opted for the pre-theater pre-fixe dinner and while the food was fine, it was not outstanding as I remembered it being about 5 years ago. Additionally, service was quite slow and not as attentive, either -- we had our empty dinner plates on our table for about 15 minutes and as a result, we didn't have time for desert before the show! The restaurant was not packed so I don't know what happened, especially since the host and our server knew we had tickets to the theater. The waiter was quite apologetic and offered us complimentary desserts after the theater, but we were too annoyed to return. We got our check and left the restaurant around 7:45pm and barely made it in time to the theater. We won't be back -- there are too many good restaurants in NYC!

Though the buzz is gone, Vong continues to provide top notch pan-Asian cusine served in a stylish setting with top notch service. The customers now focus on dinning versus being seen, which is all to the better. Remains top of its class.

We just keep going back--that's all. Of all the places to eat in NYC, we keep going back to Vong. For the prix fixe luncheon, for birthdays, for secretary's day, for the spur-of-the-moment. It's lush, spicey, interesting. The experience makes you feel alive again. Go and see for yourself. It's divine.
