I had dinner at Wolfgang's last week with my friends and we had a really great time. I had heard a lot of good things about this place, and I also knew about the waiting even with reservations, as it says in the Zagat Survey. However, me and my friends had a good time drinking at the bar until we were called from the maitre d. The food was amazing, not to mention the professionalism of the staff. I have been here before for drinks, so I know how busy the place gets every night. I believe it is understandable if they get one or two complaints compared to about 400 customers that they accommodate every day. I love the place, and the waiters are so funny, they just make you forget about the wait. Can't wait to go back. I highly recommend it!

Worse service, combined with bad food

I have never seen such a downright rude waiter in this city. Not at a nice steakhouse like Wolfgang's where you would expect to have a more attentive and professional service, when you see the Internet-side. He rushed us, took our plates away when we weren't finished, and was practically throwing things around. No basic manners at all. Our steaks were like coal. I ordered it medium and asked for it not to be blackened on the outside. The steak came rare, but blackened enough to have a charred taste. The steak itself isn't as flavourful and tenderly as I've had it at other steakhouses. Conclusion: If you are in New York City and you are looking for bad to worse service, combined with bad food, than you have to go to Wolfgang’s Steakhouse.

Waste of Time

I made a reservation this weekend for my girlfriend and I. We arrived promptly and was directed to the bar. I returned to the hostess 30 minutes after our reservation and was promised a table. I checked in 3 times after and each time they promised us a table. They forgot each time and to add insult to injury the hostess would ask me "how many in your party?" each time. A real waste of time.

Horrible experience. The food was simply awful. The steaks were ok, nothing special for the high price. We had salmon and it was inedible. The fries were burnt badly. The broccoli was mushy. Need I say more. Try Quality meats. Wonderful.

We ate here on a recent friday night and our meal was just awful. The rib-eye had no taste and the tuna was stringy and tasteless! Thankfully are apps, crab cocktail and bacon, were decent and the sides we had with our entrees ( fries and onion rings ) helped us leave the restaurant without feeling hungry! Oh, the servers were just rude and wanted you in and out of there. Not my style when paying over $250 for dinner/drinks.

I have been to this resturant several times. Yes they are horrible with reservations and you wait on average 30 minutes at the bar but it's worth it. The food is excellent and the service is great. You are willing to stuff that last piece in your mouth just not to let it go. But save the room for desert because the menu is great. I can not deny that I have had similiar experiences to the others listed but I will always go back.

Despite warnings about their disregard for reservations, we (myself and two kids, 21 and 17) made them anyway for 6:30 on a Sat. evening, the place was packed but we only had to wait 10-15 minutes before Wolfgang himself seated us. Service was prompt and effecient, with the waiter assuring us that 2 sides (asparagus, big and prefectly steamed, with hollandaise on side) and German potatoes (hash fries) were plenty for the table. My daughter had the filet, a huge hunk she devoured, said it melted in her mouth. My son and I split the porterhouse for 2, not as good as Peter Luger's but still perfectly cooked and bursting with that aged-prime flavor. Had an incredible hot fudge sundae for desert. Drinks at the bar waiting for table (1 Grey Goose martini, 1 ginger ale) totalled $16 - yikes - but got a good bottle of Ridge zinfandel at dinner for $45. Plenty of good reds available for under $60. Atmosphere was noisy, boisterous, full of people who seemed to be having a lot of fun. Dress was mostly casual.

unauthorized credi card charge

Met a friend at Wolfgangs for lunch...it happened to be close to meeting place. Had an expensive lunch...left tip in cash...found an additional 35.00 charge to my credit card for tip...trust me I truly understand the laws of tipping...this was no 60.00 lunch tip sort of meal..also rushed..was given dessert menu before main course arrived ???

Why bother making a reservation when they don't honor it and are hostile and aloof about it? This is place is joke.

I'm not sure which part of last night was the worst: the fact that we waited for an hour after our reservation to be seated; were then told to "get up, that's not your table;" finding out that the large party sat at the table that was not ours actually had a later reservation; or the total lack of apology for the ridiculous wait time or the rudeness of the maitre d'. My friend's birthday would have been ruined if Patrick and co. at Smith & Wollensky's hadn't taken such good care of the 11 of us. I used to work in the service industry, and was taught that when a guest chooses your restaurant for a special occasion, you go out of your way to make the evening perfect for them. I was appalled by Wolfgang's failure to even try, and don't care if the steaks are good enough to cause orgasm. I'll never go back.
