I was just introduced to this place a few months ago, and I'm kicking myself for not finding it sooner. The food is amazing (although I have to agree with Joannab on the spinich crepe, unless you LOVE spinich, it's really the only thing in there).
To try- Spinich Ravioli, Fettucini, the entire dessert menu and ANYTHING with the carrot dressing...you know what? Just drink the stuff, it's that good.
The decor is fun and funky, and may throw you off at first glance, as it doesn't do the place justice, but if its a nice night, sit out back. The patio is amazing - large enough for a big party, but intimate enough that you can hear eachother talk.
Service - we've had some amazing waiters (including mustache man...you know who you are, we love you) and they make the place jump.
As far as value goes - I've gone with groups of 5 or 6, had apps and pitchers of sangria and not topped $150. Its fantastic.
GO THERE NOW.

The atmosphere is wonderful. I would recommend going for a drink BUT don't touch the food I ordered the spinach crepes. It was easily the worst thing I've eaten in NYC. Besides the crepe being completely tasteless and soggy, the filling tasted & looked like someone just microwaved some frozen spinach and called it a day.

I do go into Manhatten at all with few exceptions, Yaffa is one of them. Mostely I am in Brooklyn, and for a place to pique my interest they have to be good, I like to cook, so I do look for a place that has good food, great staff and atmoshere. Not to mention, I like coffee, and theirs is worthy enough to take out a cup and walk by Starbucks with my head held high.
For me Yaffa can and will be one of the only reasons I cross the river.

my friends and i have come to yaffa for every new years and birthday since freshman year of HS (10 years!) the crepes are my favorite, and the waitstaff is chill and friendly. if its nice out ask to eat in the garden outside. the lights are beautiful and its so huge you forget youre in the east village! its the only place that will accomodate 15 people without a reservation on new years eve and be patient with alcohol spilling and loud conversations. go there...but dont take my table!

One of the (many) great reasons to live in the East Village, and the perfect post-anything after-hours venue. As the giant mural outside screams, the Yaffa Cafe is "open all nite", and the 80s downtown vibe continues inside with its quirky decor and unexpected music. Where else can you enjoy a glass of hot chocolate at four in the morning while listening to the Sugarcubes?

I went to Yaffa in early August 2005. It was my first time in New York, but my girl friend is from there and showed me around. Yaffa is her favorite place. The food was excellent, the decor original and the atmosphere seedy (a good thing). The carrot dressing was great. We didn't get a chance to use the complimentary condom, but we kept it as a souvenir.

Yaffa Cafe has been my after clubbing eatery for the last 10 years. It's certainly not fine dining but the food is good and dirt cheap ($6-$10 for an entree.) The gazpacho is awesome, the hummus is great, and their carrot dressing, which comes on every salad is the bomb! I keep telling them they should bottle the stuff. The decor is manic, (leopard and reds and kitschy,) which i love. The crowd is a hodge-podge of artists, club kids, goth chicks, and preppy college kids. Oh yeah, and you get a free condom on the way out.
