I really love the rolls at Yama. My favorite is the No. 5 special roll (salmon, scallion, spicy mayo) and I usually order it inside-out and add avocado- it's delicious. I've definitely had better sushi in my life, but this is a solid place to go and I like that it's a little hidden. It is usually pretty packed during the dinner hours, so I recommend making a reservation. The ambiance and service isn't anything exceptional, but it really is high-quality sushi for a reasonable price.

The gramercy location is extremely crowded and the service is fine. The sushi portion is large and quality is fine esp the king crab though the crab stick is imitation. However dessert is an incredible rip-off and tea costs money. To be honest, why go here when I can go to Tomoe. The service at the Houston St location is lousy unless you get the sushi bar. The female staff can be quite obnoxious. I personally would never go back there with friends after an awful experience in 2001.

Food is great, never had a bad experience in the 100's of times I've been here--I've been to Nobu, Blue Ribbon--still think this place is the best. You never feel as though you spent too much on a meal that wasn't worth it at this place, and every $$ is worth it.
