Fourth floor antiques are high quality and a good value
By Ceres on 10/9/2012
The best feature of ABC Carpet, for me, has been the fourth floor antiques. I am not avid for antique furniture, more that I want all wood, well made, durable items. I don't like shopping for antiques, digging through musty stores in out of the way places. ABC's fourth floor is VERY different: Clean, well labeled and clearly priced merchandise. No guessing or worrying about authenticity. There is full provenance (year, country or locality, materials, everything) written out, attached or beside, each item (individual pieces are sold separately which is good for me, as often stores require that an entire set of something be bought together, won't just sell an end table). It's a good thing that the products are so well-labelled, as sales staff are few and far between! I was surprised that ABC would be praised for attentive sales people, as that has not been my experience. They ring up purchases correctly, do a good job with delivery, shipping, packing etc. Maybe other parts of the store are run differently. Good location, on the corner of Broadway, lighting is excellent, so you can see what you're buying. My first purchase from ABC was in 1994. I last visited a year or two ago, have had consistently good experiences over time as a customer.

Quite simply my favorite design store on earth ... Trying to be a more educated consumer and making responsible choices with your money isn't always easy. Products at ABC Home & Planet are created consciously, whether that means to support individuals or organizations in developing countries by offering fair wages for their work, and thus having fair-trade items; or items that have been recycled or re-purposed to help the environment.
Broadloom Department is unreliable--terrible service
By iScout on 3/28/2008
Simply put, they don't do what they say they will do when they say they will. They are not honest. They don't call you back. They are not helpful. It is a bunch of guys sitting around in chairs not wanting to work. You can't even get a manager to help you--they are all in meetings! When they measure for yardage--it is 20% greater square footage than 2 other providers who measured. It is a rip off. They tried to sell me wool instead of nylon--we have a dog so nylon is preferred by cleaners.
Broadloom Department is AWFUL!

I had a horrendous experience with the sales people in this dept, who seem dishonest, manipulative, and smarmy. Prices fluctuate depending on how badly they think they can exploit you. I recommend shopping elsewhere, I really do.
