Contrary to the two other reviewers, who perhaps got out of bed on the wrong side, or perhaps should stay there ad infinitum. my husband and I have found this store to be astonishingly pleasant to shop in. The staff are funny and helpful and go out of their way to get you items from other Barbour suppliers if they don't carry it themselves. I would highly recommend the Barbour store on Madison to anyone wanting good quality clothing, and good quality service.

One has to really question what Barbour has in mind regarding their well designed store at 1047 Madison, for the moment you walk in there is an offensive air of disregard. The sales staff is skilled at communicating how little they care for customers. Both times I went to the store, to repair a jacket, the person behind the desk was on the store phone lost in conversation about an auction she had attended. The store manager, in the back room, was too busy to come out to deal with customers. The clothing is well made, perhaps relying upon the brand more than quality. But overshadowing any comments about clothing is the simply awful customer service. It's the worst of the upper east side, almost a parody about arrogance and passive-aggressive customer service.

Once you purchase your items, the customer service is horrible. The sales people who answer the phone are curt and rude, some are simply unhelpful and unapologetic when they make mistakes. While the products speak for themselves, the service side at Barbour is really lacking. They believe the product is the only important part of the transaction. Assisting the customer if there are problems or questions is a big zero, which mitigates the value of the product. Every time I see the coat I purchased I tell the person I'm with how awful the experience was. I'd rather go to a store that carries Barbour, then to go to Barbour by Peter Elliot. I'd recommend you do the same.
