As a child who grew up in a bakery, I have a really hard time stuffing down my deep-rooted pastry-snobbery when it comes to NYC cupcakes. I have never been able to understand the obsession with Crumbs and Magnolias. But I HAVE been converted to accept a select few truly great cupcake joints, and Butter Lane is one of them. With their combination of real and organic ingredients -- they achieve and true flavor in their frosting and cake, where others have only come close. I adore the range of flavors they have and can only dream until the next cupcake. I'm not interested in the seating and whatnot. You give me a great cupcake and a smile, and I'll pay what it's worth.

Butter lane is an adorable, tiny shop with cupcakes that rival those of the infamous Magnolia. The vanilla buttercream has bits of vanilla bean in the cupcake that is irresistibly cake-like and the frosting is sweet and sugary, but not overwhelming. They also have unusual concoctions such as the "mojito" and the "elvis"--banana cupcake topped with peanut butter frosting and marshmallows! Truly a delightful place.

We took the trek to the tiny Butter Lane in hopes of finally finding a good cupcake. We looked at Butter Lane online and were thrilled with the reviews from other customers. We got to the very very tiny bakery and waited our turn to pick our cupcakes. The process for ordering is time consuming, each cupcake is made to order. Our server was less than happy to serve us and we felt rushed ordering. We picked our frostings and left. When we finally dug in to the amazing cupcakes, we were thouroughly disappointed. The cake was dry and the frostings very very sweet. Not worth the 2.50-2.75 a cupcake price and walk. Needless to say we are still waiting for the perfect cupcake.
