For those who are not famaliar with the 'follow you around' courtesy of the staff members, it's considered highly polite and personal service in Japan. They are trained so just by knowing what you are looking at they would know your personal taste and they can actually recommend something that would look great on you. I love this store and it's a must-go every now and then!

No sign out front for a reason

There's no sign because they want to be sought out. I've been to this store on three occasions and each time was treated well. They don't hound you like you were on 34th st somewhere. This is Japanese based in France. Third, i was searching for a blazer i could wear to work and out if i wanted. Everything is not on the "rack". You must ask for what you want. The salesman brought out exactly what i was looking for: a black two button, single breasted single vent blazer. If you touch it you will burn yourself, it is hot. The cut is classic, not trendy so it won't be out of style in a week. It could be from now or five years from now. I searched Prada and three other brands. Agnes B, Issey Miyake and Yohji Yamamoto. At Prada I waited thirty five minutes for nothing and the quality of the clothes sucked for the price. Comme Des Garcons got my money and i will be going back after i get my next one from Issey Miyake. Big up to Jerell

I'm not certain where people get the idea that the service is eager to force people out. They are used to tourists there to see the space. If you are truly interested they seem to help - I don't dress up to shop and have gotten decent service when I'm sweaty and dressed in sloppy dirty casual clothes. But I know their line and am in NYC just to shop at their store.

This is my favorite neighbourhood spot for "window" shopping, and I usually try to buy something at sale time. The staff are always pleasant and chatty even though I almost never buy anything. I admire the clothing: certain items belong in museum collections. The architectural design is still fresh and engaging, too.

I live in Sydney Australia and went to New York for shopping (among other things). I had been walking around all day, so was wearing comfortable, but not terrible clothes and as soon as the shop assistants saw me, they could not wait to get me out of the store. They followed me around like I was going to steal something. Shame, as I had plenty of money to burn!

If you have deep pockets and good taste, Comme des Garcons is a must. Although the designs are a little "out there" for the averages fashionista, an adventurous dresser will feel right at home. Even better than the clothing is the design of the store. Easily mistaken for one of the neighboring Chelsea art galleries, you feel like you are entering a space ship or another universe once you step through the chrome entrance.
