I have shopped at the market since it moved into the neighborhood and though I mourned the loss of the previous grocer, commodities has served fairly well. I had several recent experiences that weren't so good and hope the owner takes notice ... several bad chobani yogurts (tops spotted with bacterial growth)...almost cracked a tooth on something in a blueberry soy based pastry... lots of rotten tomatoes...staff are often indifferent or behave immaturely now and I miss the radical and positively charged crew of the past. The store provides a lot that I need, though, and I often prefer to shop there than make the trip to Trader Joe's on 14th Street.

the place wasn't designed to function with more than 3 customers at a time. the aisles barely fit one person and god forbid you're holding a basket the other person has to walk to the other side of the store to get around you. the products are good and it's reasonably priced but it's such a drag to shop there.

I've shopped at Commodities Natural Market for years; their staff, everyone from the Vitamin manager to the Produce and Grocery managers are extremely knowledgeable and professional. If they are not sure of a question I've asked, they will research it and find the answer. Each time I go there, they have new items to try. For example, their Cheeses are amazing, they carry only the finest quality of ORGANIC cheeses. The store recently renovated the Health and Beauty Department. They carry wonderful face creams, beauty supplies and an amazing selection of vitamin and herbal products. If you want or need a product they don't have, they are happy to order it for you and the best part is that you don't have to wait a long time to get it. Their produce selection is extensive, all of their produce is fresh and ORGANIC, I never have to worry about getting anything at Commodities that is not ORGANIC, and that is EXTREMELY important to me. I've been coming from Queens to shop at COMMODITIES for years and will continue to do so. In my opinion, COMMODITIES is a GIFT to New York.
