Beautiful work, Terrible Service

I called a few weeks before the party to order one of their beautiful cakes. Despite very specific instructions and calling multiple times speaking with the decorators, they delivered a horrible looking cake that was not at all what I asked for. It was not even close to what I asked for or wanted. "Bold hot pink flowers covering the cake" turned into a brown disaster. I sent the cake right back with the delivery guy and they fixed it (after many agonizing phone calls) before the party... and it was a lot better. Words of advice? If you want one of their beautiful creations, you have to be ON them. In the store, talking to the people that will actually do it, and making sure they deliver on time with the right cake. But the cakes really are gorgeous...

the cakes are absolutely gorgeous! I have been getting my cakes from here since I was a child and they have always been so memorable and beautiful. everyone I know from the city gets their cakes for any special occasion here, as if there was anywhere else. my cousin's wedding cake, for 400 people, had everyone in awe.

They FORGOT to bake my wedding cake!

They called an hour and a half before my wedding reception, and told me they forgot to make one of the cakes Yes, FORGOT!.I had confirmed my order twice and it still was 'nowhere to be found. Rather than just show up with all the cakes, the nut tha runs this company proceeded to argue with me on the phone while my guests arrived. She did bring the cakes, but. hen she showed up at my party and argued with my waitstaffs about how they had placed a cake on the buffet and about what I had ordered. (nuts) I work in catering and will NEVER use this company again. VERY flakey.

Over Labor Day weekend, my fiancee and I decided to visit the place after I read a section in a popular magazine in which celebrities mentioned their favorite cupcake/dessert place. So off we went to the Cupcake Cafe as one of the celebrities stated that it offered the absolutely best tasting chocolate cupcake. Well, we should have known better. We sampled a small chocolate cupcake decorated with a yellow flower. Our veredict? Undoubtedly the worst tasting cupcake we've ever had. We couldn't believe how dry it was and how poorly the chocolate frosting tasted.

Oh what populariy does! Once a New York staple, this bakery seems to now serve less than edible baked goods. A recent birthday cake purchse was downright stale although it was ordered the day before pick up. While the original recipe is a thick old fashioned cake, there is something wrong when cakes and cupcakes taste tough. Like a used prostitute, the cakes can be interesting to look at and even pretty, but used and tired is not a great place to be on a table.
