great little shop on 7th
By Johnnymillman on 9/17/2013
Having just moved into the neighborhood and feeling overwhelmed by the million eyeglass stores around, I stumbled into this place, because the glasses in the window were like something out of a trendy store in the village. Walking up to the counter it was like I died and went to heaven, tons of great frames!!!! All I needed was a nosepad for my Mikli frames, they did the repair, and didnt charge me, I looked at a few pairs and found the one I just had to have, a few days later, I picked em up in the morning, and by that night I had at least 15 compliments! this is the spot for me!
Don't buy here

I bought two frames here. The first pair, they put the wrong lense in the wrong eye. The second pair, they severely distorted the frame in the process of installing the lenses. They refused a refund, even though an independent optician confirmed the distortion. They have a good selection, but clearly do not know how to make glasses correctly. Don't go here. I'm out more than $500.
They made my glasses with the WRONG Prescription

AWFUL & INCONSISTENT! Got an eye exam here and they made my glasses with the WRONG PRESCRIPTION. How do you get that wrong?
If you value selection - go here!

Best overall experience with a makeover. If you are in for a change in the way you appear to the world - this is the place to go. They have a large selection of hip and sophisticated Asian/Euro style frames (in a tiny shop). All other places I went to in the LES/SoHo or Chelsea, I ended up with a 'safe' black wire rim pair - here I ended up in a pair of Bevels with an aubergine exterior and an electric blue interior (yay - finally no black glasses). Yes - designer frames can be pricey, but they keep the lenses at a fair value.
A great place for glasses

I've gotten glasses from the Eye Shoppe time and time again. As another reviewer said, Michael won't push a frame just because: if you don't like it, he'll help you find something better. With my last pair of glasses, there were problems with the lenses two times (not their fault!), and each time the problem was corrected gratis and with charm and aplomb. I'll definitely keep giving them my business.
Great service and selection of rare frames

I love the Eyeshoppe. They carry a great selection of rare & unique European and Japanese frames that I've only seen elsewhere once (in the Short Hills Mall in NJ). I get compliments on my glasses all the time and have referred many friends there, who keep coming back 'all the way' from Manhattan just to get something special. Michael, the owner, seems to have a true passion for glasses. I trust his expert eye to pick frames that suit my face and personality, often ending up with frames I would not have selected myself. Unlike the 'yes men' in the other neighborhood stores looking for a quick sale & a quick buck, he's not afraid to steer me away from the safe & boring department to up-to-date and fashionable glasses ("I'll put them away for you, think about it and come back tomorrow."). PS Don't understand a previous reviewer's comment that they don't 'accept' insurance. They've always provided me with a detailed bill that I could submit to my insurance company... ?!? In short: for boring stuff go elsewhere. for cool glasses that not everyone is wearing, this is the place!
