If You Love The Retro Look...

You will love Horseman. My place is now a cross between Madmen, Blade Runner and Clockwork Orange. A retro future look that I absolutely love. This place is not for the week of heart, though. It takes looking and digging and comparing and imagining all of the possibilities which seem almost endless. It's obvious that the days of finding some discarded piece of furniture for super cheap in a dusty Brooklyn shop are just gone. Evidence of this are all of the super-chic-hipster stores that are spreading throughout Brooklyn selling the broadly defined 'Retro' style furniture for an arm and a leg. Don't expect salvation army prices at Horseman but their prices are definitely more realistic than the prices found in the newer, trendier shops. I've been back several times over the summer, patching my place together and loving it. One word to the wise: If you see something you like, grab it. At first glance it looks like everything has been there forever, but in truth the best pieces fly out of there really fast.

Unbelievable selection of mid-century modern furniture, industrial metal and lights. Initially I went in for a desk but I kept finding things I didn't even know I needed (lol). Now I've refurnished my study and living room both. It's an exciting discovery of one of the last great Brooklyn antique stores left, complete with price haggling and real knowledge of the aesthetic. Come with time to wander five stories packed to the brim. You will not regret it.

Buyer Beware

These guys sold us a chair that broke within two weeks, tried to fix it and couldn't and have just stuck us with it, even though they have another just like it in the store. It was clearly broken when we bought it, and they refuse to make it right. Save your money and shop somewhere where the owners will stand behind their stuff.
