The Bar Gets Set Even Higher

These last two weeks, I have done the “Lingerie Sales Test”: I visit various lingerie stores, as a suit-wearing young Asian business professional. While looking for a little something to make my girlfriend feel like a million bucks, I check out how the service stacks up. La Perla is the definitive name in Fine Lingerie and I was not disappointed when I visited its airy SoHo loft location. An Art Gallery by itself, the location housed some of the most beautiful lingerie sets (under glass). When I arrived near closing time, many saleswomen were ready to help me out with a smile, asking if I needed any shopping assistance. While I declined assistance, it was reassuring that they had not underestimated either my maturity or my buying power. In my experience, La Perla has produced some of the most elegant, sophisticated and sexy lingerie sold. The craftsmanship and authenticity are first-rate and judging by my visit to the store that day, the service was up to par with these luxurious goods. Exquisite Lingerie, Exorbitantly Priced

I've been a La Perla addict for 7 years now. It started in 1996, with a bra made entirely from one long silk cord, looped over itself again and again to weave delicately webbed cups, held together by an even thinner silken cord. I don't think anything has ever surpassed that first bra (in quality or price); nonetheless, I remain one of the faithful. But here's a secret tip: Century 21 also carries La Perla. So if you can wait until the end of the season, when the store makes room for new merchandise, you can have princess lingerie at a pauper price.

La Perla is a true shopping treat for us lingerie junkies. (Especially if your rich boyfriend can afford the hefty tab.) I got a wonderful bra - which is more like a wearable work of art. The Malizia brand by La Perla is a little less expensive and geared toward a younger shopper.
