I have been buying bags at Lederer for a decade. I will never buy another one. While I have 10 year old bags in wonderful shape the bag I bought last year is junk. And it is the most expensive bag I ever bought there. A phone call to the store gave me the messages that they wanted me to be satisfied with my purchase, my subsequent visit was so awful I could hardly believe it. They implied I had cut the handle ( why???) when it was obvious that pieced together skins were coming apart. So rude and insulting. I have not been back since.
Rude, very rude

I bought a good looking bag. But one of the handles came off after my first use. I brought the bag to the store. When I asked for store manager, the older gentleman said there is no manager. He was defensive, with no smile, took and bag and sent to the "repair" department. Soon, Mr. Lebow, a manager looking person, showed up. I stated a chat with him, and asked him that how could a NEW bag's handle fall off. He, also, was very defensive. "Anything could happen." When I asked him that if there are any other Lederer stores in Manhattan. He said no. "Is it important to have a good reputation?" I asked. His answer was "I can do what ever I want to!" I have never seen or met such rude people in any store on Madison Ave. Shocking. Well, as of my bag. They are going to FIX it, but it will take 5 days.
Not worth it!

This is NOT the Lederer's that I remember! Having bought many Lederer's handbags over the years since 1952, I noticed that one of my Lederer Handbags (c.1958) could use a slight cleaning/conditioning, along with very minor repairs (due to its age, normal wear/tear) to the bag itself albeit that is in almost mint condition. I sent my handbag to Lederer's in NYC only to find out that they were going to charge me $200 for their services, which would have been fine since the bag is c.1958, right? But that's not what bothered me. Having a few questions of my own re. the $200 they were requesting for services and misc. information re. my handbag, which they now had in their possession, the sales associate (a yg woman) could not be bothered to answer any of my questions and possessed little/no knowledge of Lederer's products, etc and on top of it was so incredibly rude to me. She informed me that she didn't have time to talk as she had customers to attend to. Was I not a customer? I requested to speak to a manager, an older middle eastern man, who to my surprise was even more rude to me, who informed me that services/repairs to my purse was not a "money-maker" for them and that they needed to attend to "real" customers. Please note: my phone conversation w/ Lederer's lasted only 7 mins in total. In saying that, I had my handbag sent back to me asap. Note: they do not have stores in Paris nor London and the purses themselves are no longer made in Paris.

I bought a bag there on sale yesterday, then came across this website and called them to find out why there is "paris" next to the name. I asked them if they had anything in Europe. Turned out they closed all European stores. Then the woman gave the phone to supposedly the store/company owner. I asked them if they are going bankrupt and if he knows what ppl write about his store. He literally yelled at me, called me stupid, said ppl who write reviews on the internet are idiots. He yelled at me saying he can show me how much he is worth personally and his bank accounts. That was already obscene. The guy who sold me the bag said he knows nothing about the firm which was surprising to start with and I mentioned to the store owner that his staff has no idea what they sell. He again called me stupid. I totally agree with the above comments and seems like they are going bankrupt.

I just returned from NYC and as I was strolling down Madison, I came upon this shop. At first I thought the bags in the windows were Hermes. So, I went inside. That is when I realized they were just copies of Hermes. Their belts even have the "H" on them. Could they not be more original??? Do they really claim to have stores in Paris and London? If so, where?

Since I was so dismayed at their blatant desire to copy others, I had to check their website and guess what? There are no other stores anywhere except this one. At the store, when I enquired about a particular skin bag, both sales women were so rude and their lack of knowledge was incredible. They treated me like I was an idiot. But, I know skin handbags very well, as I work for a major player in the field; so I gave them a piece of my knowledge on the subject. Then, the older sales woman did not know what to say! Lederer may have been a good name in the past, but now they simply copy other designers. And as I was told by a man in the store (the current owner perhaps?), the bags are no longer made in France. Yet, he did not tell me where they are made. Truth be told, I think the "positive" comments that appear here were probably written by employees of Lederer.
This place is overpriced!!

I was recently in the neighborhood and went to check this store out to find that the sales associate was extremely rude and the leather goods were way overpriced and cheap...not worth the visit! I also heard that this place was selling knockoffs of other designer bags...buyers beware!!! What a waste of time!!!
What happened to this place?

i've been going to this store for 30 years and stopped recently. it has become a store of overpriced, cheap quality knock offs. they sell the same bags at Suarez on Park for half the price.

Lederer offers the most gorgeous handbags and gifts in New York City. I am a regular customer and have been for several years. I am a true critic of "fine" leather and Lederer has it. You cant go wrong with gifts here either. They also offer a wonderful selection of gifts for him & her!
Best All Around Store for Leather Goods
By JJoelle on 3/31/2004
I have been shopping at Lederer for many years. They have a wonderful and helpful staff as well as anything leather that you may need- handbags, briefcases, wallets, jackets and hundreds of leather accessories. They have the finest quality leather and genuine skins! Once you purchase something from them, you realize there is no other quality out there!!
