I'm Harry Hawk, a manager at Leske's Bakery. We re-opened with new owners on August 8th, 2012; we have hired back 4 bakers who previously worked at Leske's. We have also turned back the quality on recipes restoring butter to the danish, using real almond paste where called for, etc. We welcome your business and feedback. Reviews (good or bad) prior to August 8, 2012 refer to the previous owners. Leske's was founded in 1961 by Hans Leske's and his wife Ella. It sold in 1987 to the Rosenhammer family until they closed the bakery in 2011.

As a life long resident of Bay Ridge I can tell you that any Danish influence in this bakery is a thing of the past. They don't even have limpa bread any more, a Danish specialty. In fact not only do they not have it they have no idea what you're taking about when you ask for it. When I was a kid this was the best bakery in the neighborhood, but those days are long gone. The sales staff leave a lot to be desired as well. In addition to never having a smile on their face they cannot even manage to take a phone order correctly. I ordered a sheet cake for a birthday and when I went to pick it up they had no idea of who I was due to my last name being massacred so badly by the person who took the order. If you want a good bakery in Bay Ridge go to Monacos on 85th and 3rd. It's the real deal!

Leske's has something they call a "Pretzel Cake" or Welch Kringla, and it is, hands down, the BEST CAKE you will EVER EAT! Imagine a giant, pretzel shaped creampuff with real whipped cream, oh-so-light pastry cream, and sweet raspberry sauce, but SO LIGHT you might find yourself eating the entire cake before you finish your coffee. These are so cherished, my family gives them out as Christmas presents. We drive all the way up to Brooklyn from Myrtle Beach, S.C. for these cakes. But, be sure to get three or four, because once you cut into one, you can guarantee it will disappear in a matter of minutes...and you'd better cut YOUR PIECE FIRST! Leske's, you had better never close your doors, or the world as we know it would come to an end.
