When I first visited this store, I had an interest in mystery novels, and a few favorite authors. After visiting here and reading the many staff recommendations posted around the store (including their 100 Best Mysteries wall - wonderful!), I have added many more to my reading list. This is the type of independent book shop that today struggles to survive the competition from chains, and which has all the hallmarks of a good old privately owned shop with knowledgeable staff who care about their craft - also with quirk and charm to boot. Check out the retro live "radio mystery theater" performances that take place monthly behind the "secret" sliding bookshelf. Great destination in a wonderful neighborhood. I will travel far out of my way to make my book purchases here, just to keep a place like this in business. I hope others will, too.

I visit Partners & Crime every time I go to New York - it is on the (my) Must Do list. My husband has to drag me out of there to do the other things on the (his) Must Do List. Partners & Crime has recommended authors that I would never have found on my own, from C. J. Box and his Joe Pickett books to Diane Setterfield and The Thirteenth Tale (my new all time favorite). They also have signed first editions. The staff is friendly and extremely knowledgeable, with the ability to find both the books that fit with what you like and to recommend wild-card choices that always hit home. They also have the 100 Best (read and rated by Partners with handwritten notes as to why they liked them which I find very helpful). This kind of independent bookstore is something I love about NYC.
