Sarah Tesser & Kevin McDonnell
The Old Field Vineyards, Southold, New York
July 15, 2006

Sarah’s mom knew that Kevin was “the one” long before Sarah did—a mom just knows. She was so certain, in fact, that when Kevin walked into Sarah’s college graduation party holding a tray of tarts he had baked himself, her mom said, by way of introduction, “I want you to marry my daughter.” Four years later, Kevin proposed at the River Café in Brooklyn, using Sarah’s mother’s engagement ring, and the following summer, they were wed. Although the two graduate students are admittedly different—“He’s from small-town Oregon; I’m from Brooklyn. He’s very serious; I’m much more silly,” Sarah says—they were in complete agreement about where their wedding should take place: the Old Field Vineyards. “It wasn’t as well kept as some of the other vineyards we looked at,” Sarah says. “It was a lot more relaxed and rustic and frumpy, which was what made it so beautiful.”
