Black-Tie at the Club

Lizz van Wilgen & Tyrone Smith
The Metropolitan Club
February 11, 2006

Their relationship began after a mutual friend passed away on September 11. “We had never met until his memorial, and we’ve been together ever since,” says Lizz. After Tyrone proposed at Danube in Tribeca, they spent a year planning a winter extravaganza overlooking Central Park. To avoid treks in the snow (26 inches fell the day of their wedding), Lizz and her planner organized “an easy, wonderful event in a single location.” Within the cozy contours of the Metropolitan Club, the couple exchanged vows under a chuppa-like archway covered in evergreens. “I loved the juxtaposition of a formal wedding that still felt woodsy and warm.” Once the festivities kicked off, Lizz had a self-described “diva moment” when she didn’t leave the dance floor to cut the cake. “The head waiter thought I was nuts because I’d forgotten about the feeding thing. But I just wanted to dance.”
