For the DIY-inclined bride, the company has two Surrounding Flowers: Wholesale Market shops in Manhattan, which offer the flowers from their growers at wholesale prices. Takashimaya Floral Boutique

Brides come here for compact, monochromatic and unusually beautiful arrangements. Bouquets are often nosegay style, with blooms grouped tightly together with greenery. Benefit king Bill Tansey’s high-end, refined work is a mainstay of the American Ballet Theatre, the Winter Antiques Show, and opening night at the Metropolitan Opera—which gives you some idea of the scale to which he’s grown accustomed. Prices upon request.

Utowa Floral Gallery

Utowa composes floral arrangements with a novel sculptural sensibility. Large geometric rectangles constructed with wisteria, dogwood, or bamboo tower eight feet above tables. Utowa displays lush garden flowers like peonies, hydrangea, and orchids in elaborate papier-mâché vases, and the handheld bouquets come in a glass cylinder wrapped in signature brightly colored nylon chords. Van Wyck & Van Wyck

After getting a reputation for hosting outrageous parties as an undergraduate at Yale, Bronson Van Wyck organized diplomatic receptions in Paris before getting his break throwing parties for the Clintons in his native Arkansas. Now in business with his mother, Mary Lynn, and sister, Mimi, Van Wyck has built a loyal following among both political parties as well as New York’s high-fashion and young society crowds. VSF (Very Special Flowers)

With 25 years of business under its belt, this charming shop specializes in English country garden style (tight arrangements of European garden blooms). Sarah Jessica Parker asked VSF to create the bridesmaid bouquets in the Sex and the City movie. Bouquets from $200; centerpieces start at $250.

Wolfgang Design

For a wedding at the Plaza, German-born and ¬Paris-educated Wolfgang Thom designed a twelve-foot ¬chuppa from 7,000 white orchids and placed six-foot-tall centerpieces on each table. He provides all services necessary for décor, including flowers, lighting, and furniture rental. For his high-end services, prices vary based on customers’ requests, with a simple bridal bouquet starting around $250.

Zezé

A favorite of Sutton Place high society for nearly 30 years, Zezé uses a variety of brilliantly colored flowers to create arrangements—currently favoring pairs like orange and hot pink as well as lots of gold. Flowers are the focus; the vases are simple glass. Centerpieces start at $200; bouquets at $250.
