Prada

724 Fifth Ave., nr. 56th St., and various locations; 212-664-0010; prada.com

Narrow black suits (about $2,300), dress shirts (about $375), and nylon accessories are constants at this shrine to the young, stylish, and trim. It offers only one tuxedo, with three buttons (about $3,100)—but if you swear by Prada’s streamlined tailoring, nothing else comes close.

Ralph Lauren

867 Madison Ave., at 72nd St.; 212-606-2100; polo.com

Ralph Lauren is a great source for sharp, just-fashionable-enough formal attire. A tux from the Purple Label comes in a superluxurious wool, and boasts silk lapels and an excellent fit, all for about $4,000. The Black Label has one slim-cut, flat-front tuxedo at a (relatively speaking) affordable $1,995, while the three styles of Polo tuxes are a downright bargain at $1,095.

Rothmans

200 Park Ave. S., at 17th St.; 212-777-7400; rothmansny.com

This independent, user-friendly store has both suits ($299 to $995) and tuxedos ($300 to $1,250) from big-name menswear designers like Canali, Hugo Boss, and the fashionable Ted Baker. Varvatos tuxedos are especially popular.

Saks Fifth Avenue

611 Fifth Ave., at 49th St., sixth fl.; 212-753-4000; saksfifthavenue.com

It’s worth perusing Saks’s great designer floor to check out tuxes from makers like Armani, Hugo Boss, and Canali (from $795). But if you’re after something really special, stop by Domenico Spano’s Custom Shop (from $3,200).

Salvatore Ferragamo

655 Fifth Ave., at 52nd St.; 212-759-3822; ferragamo.com

The venerable Italian company’s three styles of sleek wedding-appropriate suits (from $1,300) exude European panache. Tuxedo options range from basic black ($2,450) to a trendy navy velvet two-button notch lapel ($2,400).

Seize sur Vingt

243 Elizabeth St., nr. Prince St.; 212-343-0476; 16sur20.com

Hipsters swear by Seize sur Vingt’s specialty: crisp tailored dress shirts in a spectrum of colors. For formal weddings, grooms can select made-to-measure suits (from $1,750) or customize one of three styles of tuxedos (from $2,350).

Thomas Pink

520 Madison Ave., at 53rd St., and various locations; 212-838-1928; thomaspink.com

This wardrobe mainstay for cosmopolitan businessmen offers an array of cuff links, cummerbunds, and bow ties, but the outfitter is most famous for its handsome shirts. The best-selling “Marcella” is made of white Egyptian-cotton piqué ($165). Be sure to ask about their made-to-order wedding collection.

Turnbull & Asser

42 E. 57th St., nr. Madison Ave.; 877-887-6285; turnbullandasser.com

Turnbull & Asser is considered by many to be the most prestigious British shirtmaker in existence. Famous for its single-breasted, peak-lapel tuxedo in a wool-and-cashmere blend, this store offers ready-made (from $3,295) and made-to-measure tuxes (from $3,600). Allow at least eight to ten weeks.

Yohji Yamamoto

103 Grand St., at Mercer St.; 212-966-9066

The famously minimalist Japanese designer’s new Soho shop has something for everyone, but hip grooms will go for his no-frills suits (from $2,100) in fabrics like laine wool and silk.

Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche

855 Madison Ave., at 71st St., and various locations; 212-988-382 or 212-980-2970; ysl.com

YSL is one of the hottest menswear labels in the world, filled with sleek silhouettes that men with high-fashion tastes drool over. Three-button wool suits start at $1,700, two-button peak-lapel tuxes at $2,700.
