Amsale Aberra’s crisp, clean, made-to-order gowns start at $3,000. Brides can also check out the Little White Dress line (from $990). Alterations for a flat fee of $575. By appointment only.

Angelo Lambrou

Brides in search of a simple silk gown with a slight edge will love this boutique, where silhouettes are embellished with bias cuts and Lambrou’s signature wrapping and weaving. Brides can choose from the collection (from $2,000) or go custom (from $3,000).

Ann Hamilton Bridal Studio

For brides who love Mom’s sixties-era sleeves but are less fond of her frumpy dress, designer Ann Hamilton restores, resizes, and restyles vintage gowns ($600 to $2,000). Alterations start at $250.

Annique Couture Bridal

Annique custom designs gowns for women who prefer unfussy, well-cut styles, placing special emphasis on the fit. All-silk dresses start at $2,000, which includes alterations. By appointment only.

Atelier Aimée

These veteran designers found success in Italy (Gianni Versace was a fan) before setting up a glitzy salon in New York. Recent collections featured traditional white gowns (from $2,000), as well as lavenders and floral prints.

Birnbaum & Bullock

This atelier’s gowns come in about 60 feminine styles, with collections in three divisions: the less expensive Robert Bullock Bride ($1,350 to $1,700), the midrange Steven Birnbaum Collection ($1,700 to $2,500), and the Birnbaum & Bullock Collection’s high-end custom-made creations in 100 percent silk ($3,000 to $10,000). They also have a selection of lace boleros, veils, and cover-ups. By appointment only.

Designer Christina Kara is showing off her modern twists on the traditional gown in a new space. She offers twenty customizable silhouettes for brides (from $1,600). Dresses can be made in six months.

The Bridal Garden

This nonprofit boutique offers designer gowns at up to 75 percent off retail. Designers and boutiques donate samples and brand-new gowns from big names like Ulla-Maija, Angel Sanchez, and Vera Wang ($495 to $2,895), and proceeds from the reduced-price sales benefit the Brooklyn Charter School in Bedford-Stuyvesant. Alterations not included. By appointment only.

Bridal Reflections

This bustling grand-scale salon, whose owners have been in the business of bridal for 37 years, offers unhurried personal service, impeccable on-site tailoring, and gowns by a variety of designers, including Romona Keveza, St. Pucchi, and Ines Di Santo (from $2,500). A recent move tripled the size of the salon, adding more spacious private fitting rooms, plus bridal shoe, jewelry, and evening-wear departments, making it the perfect one-stop-shop for a New York bride.
