Built in 1929, the hotel features 526 newly renovated rooms (studios and one- to two-bedroom suites), which are casual, comfortable, and spacious, with classic mahogany desks and dressers. Guests will also find cushy armchairs and plush, triple-sheeted king-size beds, accented with red silk-quilted pillows; leather ottomans and potpourri dishes add a homey touch. The acrylic-counter kitchens are basic but fully equipped, and bathrooms with old-style tiles are modest. There's even a barber shop on the premises. Prices range from $199 to $400.
The Broadway Inn
264 W. 46th St., at Eighth Ave.; 212-997-9200; broadwayinn.comThis mid-priced, family-friendly spot is something of a haven for tourists, but it's also an inviting, intimate relief from the frenzy of the area. Its 41 rooms are well-sized by midtown standards, and impeccably clean. The décor recalls Gilded Age New York with subtle, Art Deco accents like a simple gold trim around the bed frames. Each room has its own TV, air conditioner, and bathroom with new fixtures, while suites, which accommodate up to four people, offer a pullout sofa, microwave, and cooler. The inn serves a complimentary breakfast in the second-floor lobby, and your guests can also enjoy a three-course dinner at Playwright's Tavern around the corner for just $10 a person. Doubles start at $129.
The Chelsea Hotel

Its 400 rooms have thick walls and antiqued bathrooms. Serena's, the hip bar in the basement, serves a mean martini. Bridal couples get flowers and champagne. Guests are surrounded by museums, Madison Avenue shops, and Central Park. The restaurant, Sarabeth's, serves one of the best breakfasts in the city (dinner's not bad, either). Rockefeller Center Hotel

But the rooms are generous (from 200 to 450 square feet), have flat-screen TVs and wi-fi, and offer the best rates in midtown. Studios, which include a pullout sofa and desk, start at $380, meaning your relatives will have enough left over to see Wicked. They'll also be steps away from tons of shopping, restaurants, and-if little girls are involved-the American Girl Store.
60 Thompson
60 Thompson St., near Broome St.; 212-431-0400; thompsonhotels.comSetting the standard for cool in Soho, 60 Thompson has become a true hot spot-especially with the addition of the lauded Thai restaurant Kittichai. The 100 sleek and modern guest rooms come loaded with goodies such as a CD and DVD library and in-room spa products by Fresh. If the weather's warm, the rooftop bar is a must. Washington Square Hotel
