Popular among celebrities, Tanagro jewelry has become much more accessible since its midtown retail store opened. The Bridal Collection includes round, brilliant-cut diamond rings set in platinum, starting at $1,500.

Ted Muehling

A popular destination with design connoisseurs, this small store offers unique, understated pieces. Prices range from $350 for Muehling’s fourteen-karat-gold band to $10,000 for a larger diamond piece by the designer Gabriella Kiss.

Tenthousandthings

Ron Anderson and David Rees collaborate on all their refined designs. The store is also the exclusive dealer of eighteen-karat-gold rings by Lola Brooks ($1,500 to $4,000). Eighteen-karat-gold double-cabochon diamond rings are $1,000 to $4,000.

Tiffany & Company

Nothing beats the cachet of Tiffany’s famed blue box. The store’s classic, the Tiffany six-prong-setting diamond engagement ring ($1,140), has become an industry standard; the Lucida diamond-cut ($1,670) is fast becoming a status symbol.

Van Cleef & Arpels

This legendary jeweler’s landmark Fifth Avenue store is packed with glamorous, classic engagement rings as well as a selection of lighter but equally feminine bands that appeal to younger, less traditional tastes. Engagement rings begin at about $11,000.

Vera Wang uses the modern notions of silhouette and proportion for her gowns and infuses them into her ring designs. Prices start at $5,760 for engagement rings and $300 for wedding bands.

Verdura

Verdura is known for colored stones, but it can also go classic on special-order engagement rings. Its most popular is the lace setting, an eternity band encrusted with micro-pavé diamonds and a delicate setting for a solitaire gem (from $9,000).

Zales, The Diamond Store

You’ll find a full gamut of options at Zales, but you’ll have to stay focused to avoid being overwhelmed by the huge number of vendors and price points. Thrifty couples can go for plain bands of white gold or platinum ($60 to $800), while those looking for some sparkle can add diamonds ($100 to $3,000).
