Since the Grammy nominations were announced last week, reactions have ranged from the usual shock to ridicule. A few artists left in the cold vented: The-Dream dropped a Twitter rant when his (admittedly worthy) Love vs. Money scored no nods, concluding with the PSA “STOP THE HATING ASAP”; Whitney Houston’s producer Danja was more restrained, saying “I’m a little disappointed because she put together a classic album.” And pretty much everyone was like, “Wait, Flo Rida got nominated?“
But yesterday, the awards got an unexpected boost of indie cred: According to a blog post from Spike Jonze, Miley Cyrus’s “The Climb” has been disqualified for Best Song Written for a Soundtrack, which means her spot goes to the next-highest vote getter: Karen O and the Kid’s “All is Love,” from Where the Wild Things Are. Congratulations, Karen! We’re assuming the Grammy spies discovered “The Climb” wasn’t originally written for a movie (although as far as we can tell, it did first appear on the Hanna Montana soundtrack) and that’s why it’s out of there. Don’t worry about Miley — since she wasn’t a songwriter on “The Climb,” she actually wasn’t nominated, anyways. Plus, she’s probably saving room on her mantle for an Oscar.
