Shatner’s Son: Jonathan Sadowski has landed the lead role opposite William Shatner in CBS’ upcoming $#*! My Dad Says. Based on the Twitter feed by Justin Halpern, the show will focus on the relationship between the struggling writer/blogger (Sadowski) and his “forthright and opinionated” dad (Shatner). Sadowski replaces Ryan Devlin, who played the role in the pilot. Well, considering how the trailer looked, any changes they make can’t make the show any worse. [Deadline]
On Notice: USA is developing a prequel original movie to its hit series Burn Notice with Bruce Campbell as the centerpiece, as the movie will focus on the military past of Campbell’s character Sam Axe. The news was revealed at Comic-Con Thursday where Campbell had this to say about the project: “What do I have to say about [the announcement]? I have to say that USA finally got their shit together.” [Deadline]
Vampire Becomes Doctor: Rachelle Lefevre, who was unceremoniously dumped from Twilight after the second film in the series, has joined the cast of the Shonda Rhimes medical drama Off the Map. Lefevre will play a new young doctor character on the series, about an understaffed medical clinic in South America. Though she’s probably safe from getting replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard down the road, one never knows with that crafty Rhimes! [Deadline]
Visa Problems: Bloc Party frontman Kele, who released his debut solo album in June, will have to postpone his entire North American tour, which was to begin this week in Chicago, due to visa issues. No need to fret, though: he has already rescheduled all dates for September. [Pitchfork]
Friends Forever: Zach Cregger has won the lead role on NBC’s midseason comedy series Friends with Benefits about five friends struggling with modern-day romance. The actor will play a “nerdy but cute hopeless romantic who is worth $12 million after selling an algorithm to Google.” Just normal twentysomething stuff. [Deadline]
Headey’s Chronicles: Lena Headey (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) will lead the cast of Safe House, about a team of U.S. Marshals charged with protecting a mob-trial witness and her teenager daughter. Michael Ironside (Terminator Salvation) has also been cast, and offers have been made to Kate Mara (Iron Man 2) and Michael Trucco (Battlestar Galactica). The film is being billed by producer Steve Illes as “Assault On Precinct 13 meets The Thing.” [Deadline]
