If you want real answers on Christopher Nolan’s Inception, you’re probably only wasting your time asking the film’s tight-lipped director or top-billed cast. But we learned plenty from the movie’s sixth lead, the Jeopardy!-winning Dileep Rao, and over the weekend Clothes on Film struck gold by asking Inception’s costume designer, Jeffrey Kurland, whether the film’s controversial final scene takes place in reality or a dream.

So Cobb’s kids are wearing different clothes in the final scene than in earlier flashbacks — also, per IMDb, they seem to be played by older actors — implying that he’s done dreaming. (This squares with what Dileep told us — in the last shot, the top sounds like it’s wobbling and about to fall.) So until Inception’s caterer says different, we suppose Cobb was awake.
