A Wet Hot American Summer Sequel Could Happen

With dreams of an Anchorman sequel dashed and Zoolander 2 taking forever to get out of the starting gate, comedy nerds need another potential movie sequel to pine over. Fortunately, director David Wain is here to help, and while appearing on “The Q&A with Jeff Goldsmith” to discuss the tenth anniversary of his cult classic Wet Hot American Summer, Wain revealed that he’s got a Wet Hot prequel in mind. “The prequel would be the same summer,” Wain said, “so it would be 40-year-olds playing 16-year-olds. And yeah, we’re in the early stages of thinking about that.” Still, a new installment of the series has some built-in challenges: Namely, can Wain reunite a big cast that includes stars like Amy Poehler, Paul Rudd, and Bradley Cooper? Also, will he still want to do this movie after he is hounded about it in every interview he will ever give over the next two years? We’ll see! [The Q&A With Jeff Goldsmith via Playlist/Indiewire]
