Reports: Marc Jacobs in Talks to Succeed John Galliano at Dior

Dior speculation continues this morning — and not because of errant tweets or a frenzied race in the fashion blogosphere to announce the winner of Galliano’s old job before LVMH can. WWD reports Marc Jacobs is in “serious” talks to succeed Galliano. His contract at Louis Vuitton is ending and, before renewing, LVMH is said to be vetting him for the Dior job. If he goes, his business partner Robert Duffy, who works with him at his namesake label and Vuitton, would go with him. The vacancy at Vuitton would then possibly be filled by Céline’s Pheobe Philo.

Jacobs’s name hasn’t been tossed around that much in the reports of who would take over at Dior. When asked if he was gunning for Galliano’s job at Dior at his last Vuitton show (the one where Kate Moss came out smoking a cigarette ZOMG ZOMG), he said, “I haven’t been asked.” Meaning … but if they did, he’d be into it? Sources told WWD Jacobs was in the running for the Dior job in the nineties as a successor to Gianfranco Ferré, but he ended up at Vuitton because Dior’s then-president wanted Galliano.
